Chauncey Kirby
Chauncey Thomas Kirby (October 15, 1871 – October 23, 1950) was a Canadian ice hockey player in the 1890s for the Ottawa Hockey Club of the Ontario Hockey Association and Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC). He was a member of the three-time Ottawa champions from 1891 to 1893. He played in the original Stanley Cup playoff Final in 1894, and scored the contest's first goal. His brother Halder also played for the club. He was part of two Stanley Cups with the Ottawa club in 1903 and 1904 as a Director. Personal life Kirby was born in Ottawa in 1871, the second-youngest of seven children born to Thomas Halder and Mary Kirby (née Graham), British/Irish immigrants to Canada. There were four boys, Chauncey, Halder, Richmond and Lincoln (died in infancy) and three girls, Elizabeth, Emma and Laura. 1903 CAHL Season
The 1903 Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL) season was the fifth season of the league. Teams played an eight game schedule. Ottawa and Montreal Victorias tied for the league championship with records of six wins and two losses. Ottawa defeated the Victorias in a two-game playoff to win the season and their first Stanley Cup championship, the first of "Silver Seven" era. Hod Stuart
William Hodgson "Hod" Stuart (February 20, 1879 – June 23, 1907) was a Canadian professional ice hockey cover-point (now known as a defenceman) who played nine seasons for several teams in different leagues. He also played briefly for the Ottawa Rough Riders football team. With his brother Bruce, Stuart played in the first professional ice hockey league, the American-based International Professional Hockey League (IPHL), where he was regarded as one of the best players in the league. Frustrated with the violence associated with the IPHL, he left the league late in 1906 and returned to Canada, where in 1907 he helped the Montreal Wanderers win the Stanley Cup, the championship trophy for hockey. Two months later, he died in a diving accident. Harvey Pulford
Ernest Harvey Pulford (April 22, 1875 – October 31, 1940) was a Canadian athlete at the turn of the twentieth century, winning national championships in ice hockey, lacrosse, football, boxing, paddling and rowing. A highly regarded defenceman with the Ottawa Hockey Club, where he was known for being a large and solid player who was excellent at checking opponents. With Ottawa he won the Stanley Cup four times, and also won championships or tournaments in every sport in which he played. When the Hockey Hall of Fame was founded in 1945, Pulford was one of the original nine inductees. Personal life Harvey Pulford was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 22, 1875. Fred Chittick
Frederick Charles Chittick (April 5, 1868 – August 24, 1917) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender for the Ottawa Hockey Club from 1894 until 1901. Weldy Young
Weldon "Weldy" Champness Young (October 4, 1871 – October 27, 1944) was a Canadian businessman and athlete. Young was an ice hockey player for the Ottawa Hockey Club, playing in its founding years in the 1880s and in the 1890s. Young later became a member of the Dawson City Nuggets which played against Ottawa in the 1905 Stanley Cup challenge. His brother George Young was one of the original Ottawa players and the two played together for Ottawa from 1889 to 1891. Young later became an investor and executive in mining in the Cobalt, Ontario area. Playing career Young first played for Ottawa HC in 1890 and played for the team until 1899. He moved out west, finding work in Dawson, Yukon Territory during the Gold Rush. The 1904 Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL) season was the sixth season of the league. Teams played an eight-game schedule. This was a tumultuous year as Ottawa resigned in February and defaulted four games. The Quebec Hockey Club placed first to take the championship. Quebec did not play for the Stanley Cup.
