Chhatrapati is a royal title from Sanskrit language.The word ‘Chhatrapati’ is a Sanskrit language compound word (tatpurusha in Sanskrit) of ''Chatra (umbrella), chhatra'' (''parasol'' or ''umbrella'') and ''pati'' (''master/lord/ruler''). This title was used by the House of Bhonsle. The title "Chhatrapati" was created by Shivaji upon his coronation, and this was also held by his immediate successors, namely Sambhaji, Rajaram I, Rajaram, and Shahu I, Shahu. After the death of Shahu I, Shahu, however, the increasing power of the Maratha Peshwa and Generals from Bhat Family, Peshwas reduced his successors to a nominal position although they continue to use the title to this day. Shivaji Bhonsale I (; 19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680), also referred to as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji carved out his own independent kingdom from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur which formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. In 1674, he was formally crowned the ''Chhatrapati'' of his realm at Raigad Fort. ''Chatrapathy'' is a 2004 Tamil language action thriller film directed by Srimahesh. The film stars R. Sarathkumar and Nikita Thukral whilst Vadivelu, Mahadevan, and Adithya Menon play supporting roles. The film was released for Diwali 2004 and later re-released in Hindi under the dubbed title of ''The Great Chatrapathy''. Plot Saravanan (Sarathkumar), is a bus driver and Kili (Vadivelu), is the bus cleaner in a college. He also takes care of an orphanage which is home to many children and old-aged people. Indhu (Nikita Thukral), a student of the college, tries to woo Saravanan. Meanwhile, a few rowdies are found dead. ''Chatrapathi'' is a 2005 Indian Telugu-language action drama film co-written and directed by S. S. Rajamouli and produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad. The film stars Prabhas and Shriya Saran while Shafi, Bhanupriya, and Pradeep Rawat play supporting roles. Aarthi Agarwal and Mumaith Khan made a guest appearance. The film released on 29 September 2005. It collected an estimated distributors' share of 22 crore ($5 million) against a budget of 12.5 crore ($2.8 million). The film won two Nandi Awards - Best Supporting Actress for Bhanupriya and Best Music Director for M. M. Keeravani. ''Chatrapathi'' ( kn, ಛತ್ರಪತಿ) is a 2013 Indian Kannada-language action film directed and produced by Dinesh Gandhi. It stars Dr. Siddhanth, Priyadarshini, and Bhanupriya in the main lead. The film is a remake of Telugu film of the same name, which starred Prabhas and Shriya Saran. M. M. Keeravani, the composer of the original version recreates his compositions in Kannada version.
