Charles William Jarvis
Charles William Jarvis (March 18, 1866 – July 15, 1932) was an Ontario banker and politician. Jarvis was the second mayor of the town of Fort William from 1899 to 1900, succeeding John McKellar. He represented Fort William in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1911 to 1919 as a Conservative member. He was born in St. Eleanors, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, the son of Henry Fitzgerald Jarvis and grandson of Edward James Jarvis, the first chief justice for Prince Edward Island. His brother Ernest Frederick Jarvis became assistant deputy minister of Militia during World War I. In 1892, he married Maria Louise Powley. He served as secretary for the Fort William Board of Trade and was chairman of the joint board responsible for governing the Port Arthur and Fort William Street Railway. A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadian province of Ontario. Edward James Jarvis
Edward James Jarvis (1788 – 9 May 1852) was a Canadians, Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician. He was born the youngest son of Munson Jarvis of Saint John, New Brunswick and educated at King's College, Windsor, Nova Scotia, where he was awarded B.A. in 1809. He was admitted to the New Brunswick bar as an attorney at law in 1811 and became a Notary public in Saint John in 1812. In January 1813 he sailed to London to continue his legal studies at the Inner Temple and returned to Saint John in 1816 to practise law. In 1821 he was appointed Clerk of the House of Assembly. In 1823, after travelling to London in search of a good position, was sent to Malta as King's Assessor (effectively Attorney General), holding the post until 1827. He then returned to Prince Edward Island to be sworn in as Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island on 30 August 1828, holding the position until his death. He died in 1852. Thomas Smellie (politician)
Thomas Stuart Traill Smellie (February 13, 1849 – May 20, 1925) was an Ontario physician, merchant and political figure. He represented Fort William and Lake of the Woods (1905-1908) and Fort William (1908-1911) in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Conservative member. Smellie was born in Fergus, Canada West, the son of the Reverend George Smellie (1811–1896), and studied at the University of Toronto and McGill University. He married Janet Eleanor Lawrie on 14 April 1879. He came to Prince Arthur's Landing (later Port Arthur) in 1879 and was a town councillor in 1885. He settled in Fort William in 1891, where he became Medical Officer of Health. Smellie was owner of the ''Daily Times-Journal'' from 1901 to 1908. With his brother, A.G.P. Smellie, he owned a number of stores and creameries in the Russell, Manitoba area. Prince County is located in western Prince Edward Island, Canada. The county's defining geographic feature is Malpeque Bay, a sub-basin of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which creates the narrowest portion of Prince Edward Island's landmass, an isthmus upon which the city of Summerside is located.
