Charlene Rajendran
Charlene Rajendran (born 1964 in Malacca) is a Malaysian writer based in Singapore. She currently teaches theatre at the Nanyang Technological University. Published works Rajendran's first book was a collection of poetry called ''Mangosteen Crumble'' (Team East, 1999). It explored issues of identity and difference, often by using Malaysian English syntax. It is now out of print, and the entire contents have been placed online. Her second book was ''Taxi Tales on a Crooked Bridge'' ( Matahari Books, 2009), a non-fiction book based on her conversations with the taxi-drivers of Singapore, where she now lives. This quirky book also includes some poetry and photography. Malacca
Malacca ( ms, Melaka) is a state in Malaysia located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Strait of Malacca. Its capital is Malacca City, dubbed the Historic City, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. The state is bordered by Negeri Sembilan to the north and west and Johor to the south. The exclave of Tanjung Tuan also borders Negeri Sembilan to the north. Malaysian English (MyE), formally known as Malaysian Standard English (MySE) (similar and related to British English), is a form of English used and spoken in Malaysia. While Malaysian English can encompass a range of English spoken in Malaysia, some consider to be it distinct from the colloquial form commonly called Manglish. Varieties Malaysian English may be categorised into three levels: the acrolect, mesolect and basilect. Amir Muhammad (director)
Amir Muhammad (born 5 December 1972) is a Malaysian writer and independent filmmaker. Life and career He was born on 5 December 1972 in Kuala Lumpur to civil servant Muhammad Abdullah and housewife Asiah Kechik. He was educated at the University of East Anglia with a degree in Law, though he never did his bar but rather worked in his sponsoring company's legal company for nine months. He had also written for Malaysian print media since the age of 14, notably the New Straits Times, where he had worked there as a part timer under several editors. He had a dedicated column there from 1995 until it was stopped in 1999 during the general elections as the column was considered to be "unhelpful to the government in its bid to win the elections."
