Bolognesi Province
The Bolognesi Province is one of 20 provinces of the Ancash Region of Peru. Overview The province originally was part of Cajatambo Province (part of Lima Region since 1916) until 1903, when it was split off and named after Col. Francisco Bolognesi, the hero of the Battle of Arica. In 1990, Ocros Province split off from Bolognesi. Geography The area of the province comprises parts of four Andean mountain ranges with snow-covered mountains: the Cordillera Blanca, the Cordillera Negra, the Wallanka mountain range and the Waywash mountain range. The Recuay Province is one of twenty provinces of the Ancash Region in Peru. Its seat is the town of Recuay. Ancash Region
Ancash ( qu, Anqash; es, Áncash ) is a department and region in northern Peru. It is bordered by the departments of La Libertad on the north, Huánuco and Pasco on the east, Lima on the south, and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Cordillera Blanca
The Cordillera Blanca (Spanish for "white range") is a mountain range in Peru that is part of the larger Andes range and extends for between 8°08' and 9°58'S and 77°00' and 77°52'W, in a northwesterly direction. It includes several peaks over high and 722 individual glaciers. The highest mountain in Peru, Huascarán, at high, is located there. The Cordillera Blanca lies in the Ancash region and runs parallel to the Santa River valley (also called Callejón de Huaylas in its upper and midsections) on the west. Pastoruri Glacier
The Pastoruri glacier is a cirque glacier, located in the southern part of the Cordillera Blanca, part of the Andes mountain range, in Northern Peru in the Ancash region. It is one of the few glaciers left in the tropical areas of South America. Description The glacier is around in size, and around long with a terrestrial snout ending. The glacier is currently retreating quickly. It has lost 22% of its size and 15.5% of its ice mass in the last 30–35 years.
