Cesare Tamaroccio
Cesare Tamarocci or Tamarozzo or Tamaroccio was an Italian painter of the School of Bologna, active during the early 16th century, the pupil of Francesco Francia. In 1504–1506, the Chapel of Santa Cecilia in Bologna was frescoed with ten panels by the painters Aspertini, Francesco Francia, Chiodarolo, Lorenzo Costa, and Tamarocci. The ''Baptism of Valerian'' and the ''Martyrdom of Cecilia'' by Pope Urban have been generally attributed to Tamarocci, also Corrado Ricci attributed the figures at the background to Chiodarolo, and other improbably assigned it to Giacomo Francia (died 1575). The supervision of the entire series of frescoes may have been led by Costa. Francesco Francia
__NOTOC__ Francesco Francia, whose real name was Francesco Raibolini (1447 – 5 January 1517) was an Italian painter, goldsmith, and medallist from Bologna, who was also director of the city mint.Levinson:492 He may have trained with Marco Zoppo and was first mentioned as a painter in 1486. His earliest known work is the ''Felicini Madonna'', which is signed and dated 1494. He worked in partnership with Lorenzo Costa, and was influenced by Ercole de' Roberti's and Costa's style. After 1505 he was influenced more by Perugino and Raphael. He had a large workshop and trained Marcantonio Raimondi, Ludovico Marmitta, and several other artists; he produced niellos, in which Raimondi first learnt to engrave, soon excelling his master, according to Vasari. Raphael's ''Santa Cecilia'' is supposed to have produced such a feeling of inferiority in Francia that it caused him to die of depression. Amico Aspertini, also called Amerigo Aspertini, was an Italian Renaissance painter and sculptor whose complex, eccentric, and eclectic style anticipates Mannerism. He is considered one of the leading exponents of the Bolognese School of painting. Biography He was born in Bologna to a family of painters (including Giovanni Antonio Aspertini, his father, and Guido Aspertini, his brother), and studied under masters such as Lorenzo Costa and Francesco Francia. Giovanni Maria Chiodarolo
Giovanni Maria Chiodarolo was an Italian painter from Bologna who lived in the 15th century. Little further is known of him than that the fresco of ''Angel crowning St. Valerian and St. Cecilia'', executed about 1504–1509, in the oratory of St. Cecilia, attached to San Giacomo Maggiore, in Bologna, is by tradition assigned to him. Lorenzo Costa
Lorenzo Costa (1460 – 5 March 1535) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance. Biography He was born at Ferrara, but moved to Bologna by his early twenties, and was probably influenced by the Bolognese School. However, many artists worked in both cities, and thus some consider him a product of the School of Ferrara. It is possible that he trained with Cosimo Tura. In 1483 he painted the famous ''Bentivoglio Altarpiece'' and other frescoes on the walls of the Bentivoglio chapel in San Giacomo Maggiore. He was a great friend of Francesco Francia, who was much influenced by him. In 1509 he moved to Mantua to become the court painter of Marquis Francesco Gonzaga and Isabella d'Este. For the latter's studiolo in the Ducal Palace, he painted the ''Allegory of Isabella d'Este's Coronation'' (now at the Louvre) and the '' Reign of Comus'', two mythological paintings based on Mantegna's drawings. Giacomo Francia
Giacomo Raibolini (1484 – 3 January 1557), also called Giacomo Francia or Jacopo Francia, was an Italian painter and engraver of the Renaissance period. Francia was born in Bologna as elder son of Francesco Raibolini (Francesco Francia), and like his father was also called ''il Francia''. His father and brother Giulio Raibolini were also artists. Francia was trained by his father in painting and goldsmithing, and acted as his assistant. In 1517, the year of his father's death, he and his brother, Giulio, assumed responsibility for the family business and together executed many church altarpieces, identifiable by the initials (I I) of their Latinized names (Iacobus and Iulius). Late in life Giacomo came under the influence of Dosso Dossi. He died in Bologna in 1567. Museo Poldi Pezzoli
The Museo Poldi Pezzoli is an art museum in Milan, Italy. It is located near the Teatro alla Scala, on Via Manzoni 12. The museum was originated in the 19th century as a private collection of Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli (1822–1879) and his mother, Rosa Trivulzio, of the family of the condottiero Gian Giacomo Trivulzio. Many of the rooms in the palace were redecorated starting in 1846, a commissions entrusted to Luigi Scrosati and Giuseppe Bertini. Individual rooms were often decorated and furnished to match the paintings hung on the walls. The architect Simone Cantoni (1736–1818) rebuilt the palazzo in its present Neoclassical style with an English-style interior garden.
