Central Ontario Hockey League
The Central Ontario Hockey League (COHL) was a highly competitive Intermediate ice hockey league in the central Grey County area of Ontario, Canada until the late 1970s. The league was originally sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association, but later the Western Ontario Athletic Association incorporated it into their WOAA Senior Hockey League. History The COHL was a Southwestern Ontario Intermediate level league. All Intermediate was merged with Senior in 1986, but this league was merged into the WOAA Intermediate Hockey League in 1980. The WOAA now exists as a Senior "AA" hockey league. The league was fed new players by the local Central Junior C Hockey League, under that name from 1960 until 1980, is now known as the Western Junior C Hockey League. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Grey County is a county of the Canadian province of Ontario. The county seat is in Owen Sound. It is located in the subregion of Southern Ontario named Southwestern Ontario. Ontario Hockey Association
The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is the governing body for the majority of junior and senior level ice hockey teams in the Province of Ontario. The OHA is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation along with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. Other Ontario sanctioning bodies along with the OHF include the Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Northwestern Ontario. The OHA control 3 tiers of junior hockey; the "Tier 2 Junior "A", Junior "B" , Junior "C", and one senior hockey league, Allan Cup Hockey. Western Ontario Athletic Association
The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) is the governing body of minor and senior sports in a region encompassing Grey County, Bruce County, Perth County, Huron County, northern Middlesex County, and northern Wellington County. The WOAA Senior Hockey League has been around since 1948. Sports The WOAA controls these sports: Senior Hockey, Women's Hockey, Minor Hockey, and Softball. The WOAA also actively trains officials for these sports. The WOAA's jurisdiction over local Senior Hockey has lasted since the 1948-1949 season but the association was actually established in 1942 by W. T. (Doc) Cruickshank of Wingham, Ontario. WOAA Senior Hockey League
The WOAA Senior AA Hockey League is a Canadian senior ice hockey league governed by the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The league operates in Southwestern Ontario. History Format The league uses Hockey Canada playing rules but is not operated under the jurisdictions of the Ontario Hockey Association or Hockey Canada. The league is based in the Georgian Triangle and Southwestern Ontario. The league has been in existence since 1943, one year after the WOAA itself was established, and has entertained large crowds with local former Junior Hockey players and the odd former professional player. Southwestern Ontario
Southwestern Ontario is a secondary region of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It occupies most of the Ontario Peninsula bounded by Lake Huron, including Georgian Bay, to the north and northwest; the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and Detroit River, to the west; and Lake Erie to the south. The Western Ontario Junior C Hockey League was a Junior "C" ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association. Shelburne Muskies
The Shelburne Muskies are a men's senior hockey team based out of Shelburne, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. Championships In 1982, the Muskies won their eighth COHL title since 1935. Their seventh came in 1972. The Shelburne Muskies have won one championship, in 1997–98 when they were crowned WOAA Sr. "A" champions. Head coach was Barry Trood and assistant coach was Mark Taylor, trainers Sue Snider and Charmaine Archbold. The Muskies faced off against the Arthur Tigers in the first round, defeating them 4 games to 2. Creemore Chiefs
Creemore () is a former village, now part of Clearview Township, located in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It lies approximately north of Toronto, 40 minutes west of Barrie, and 20 minutes south of Collingwood and Georgian Bay. It sits on the eastern boundary of the Niagara Escarpment. Durham is a community in the municipality of West Grey, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. Durham is located near the base of the Bruce Peninsula. Location Durham, Ontario is 44 kilometres South of Owen Sound and 89 kilometres North of Guelph on Ontario Highway 6. The middle of the town is the intersection of Highway 6 and Grey Road 4. Durham is approximately 18 kilometres east of Hanover. The population of Durham has stayed steady at roughly 2500 people over the past decade.
