The Centennial Park Pan Am BMX Centre is a BMX cycling facility at Centennial Park in the Etobicoke district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that hosted BMX Cycling at the 2015 Pan American Games. During the games the venue included temporary seating for 2,000 spectators. Description Prior to its development, the site was an empty grass area next Centennial Park's baseball diamonds at the corner of Eglinton Avenue West and Centennial Park Road. The BMX facility cost to build and features a track in a closed loop design consisting of four straightaways, three banked turns, and multiple jumps. Ontario Place
Ontario Place is an entertainment venue, event venue, and park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The venue is located on three artificial landscaped islands just off-shore in Lake Ontario, south of Exhibition Place, and southwest of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971, and operated as a theme park centered around Ontario themes and family attractions until 2012 when the Government of Ontario announced that it would close for redevelopment. It has since reopened as a park without admission but without several of the old attractions. The Government of Ontario is currently considering further redevelopment of the site. Douglas Charles Holyday (born 1942) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He is a former member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing the riding of Etobicoke—Lakeshore for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario before being defeated by Peter Milczyn in the Ontario general election of 2014. Prior to his election to the legislature, Holyday was a longtime Toronto City Councillor and deputy mayor, representing Ward 3 in Etobicoke Centre, and was the last mayor of the suburban city of Etobicoke prior to the municipal amalgamation of Toronto. Cycling At The 2015 Pan American Games
Cycling competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held July 10 to 25, 2015 at four different venues. The BMX competitions took place at the Centennial Park Pan Am BMX Centre in Toronto, the mountain biking competitions happened at the Hardwood Ski and Bike (Hardwood Mountain Bike Park) in Oro-Medonte, due to naming rights the venue was known as the latter for the duration of the games. The road races happened in the streets of Downtown Toronto with the start and finish being adjacent to the Ontario Place West Channel. Finally the track cycling events occurred at the Milton Velodrome in Milton. The road cycling time trials happened in the streets surrounding the velodrome (Milton Time Trial Course).
