Algiers
Algiers ( ; ar, الجزائر, al-Jazāʾir; ber, Dzayer, script=Latn; french: Alger, ) is the capital and largest city of Algeria. Bab Ezzouar
Bab Ezzouar (; ar, باب الزوار, link=no) is a suburb of the city of Algiers in northern Algeria. It is one of Algiers fastest growing municipalities and has seen many hotels and commercial malls being raised in the area. Bab Ezzouar is also the location of the University of Science and Technology of Houari Boumediene (USTHB), which is one of the most prominent technological universities in Algeria. Geography Bab Ezzouar is located some east by south-east of Algiers city just south of Bordj El Kiffan. Access to the commune is by the N11 highway from Algiers which passes through the north of the commune and continues east to join the A1 highway just east of the commune. El Alia Cemetery ( ar, مقبرة العالية ) is a cemetery in a suburb of Algiers in the commune of Oued Smar in Algeria. The name "El Alia" means in Arabic ''which is high'', but came from the surname of the donor of the land in 1928, Hamza El-Alia. Bab El Oued
Bab El Oued is a neighbourhood in Algiers, the Capital (political), capital of Algeria, along the coast north of the Alger Centre, city centre. As of 2008, the population of the commune of Bab El Oued was 64,732. History During the existence of French Algeria, Bab El Oued was established as the main neighbourhood of poor ''pied-noirs'', including many poor fishermen. Towards the end of the Algerian War, the neighbourhood became the stronghold of the Organisation armée secrète, until OAS attacks on the French Army led them to assault and purge the neighbourhood, during the Battle of Bab El Oued, siege of Bab el Oued in March 1962. El Kettar Cemetery
El Kettar Cemetery ( ar, مقبرة القطار) is one of the most famous cemeteries in Algeria. It is situated in a suburb of the city of Algiers in the Communes of Algeria, commune of Oued Koriche. It opened in 1838 replacing the cemetery of Sidi Abderrahmane destroyed in 1830. It was previously known as Dar El Ghrib (the unknown's residence) since foreigners of the city's limit were buried there. The current name, El Kettar (distillery in Arabic), is due to the distillation of jasmine in the Bridja, a funeral monument dating from the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman era. It was built on a steep hill cemetery, because at the time of colonization, the French authorities forbade Muslims to bury their dead in flat terrain. Belouizdad, Algiers
Mohamed Belouizdad ( ar, بلوزداد) is a quarter of Algiers, Algeria in Algiers Province. The quarter was formerly known as Belcourt during the French colonisation period. It was renamed as Hamma-El Annasser ( ar, الحامة-العناصر) after Algerian independence, before the present name Belouizdad was adopted in 1992 in honour of the Algerian militant and nationalist Mohamed Belouizdad who lived in the quarter.
