Cayman Islands competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's ninth appearance at the Olympics, except the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow due to the United States-led boycott. Five athletes from the Cayman Islands were selected to the team, participating only in athletics and swimming. Sprinter Kemar Hyman was the only athlete to compete at his first Olympics. Veteran sprinter Cydonie Mothersill, on the other hand, became the only female and the oldest athlete of the team, competing at her fifth Olympics. Swimmer Brett Fraser, and his brother Shaune advanced past the first round in the men's 100 m freestyle for the first time, since its swimming team began competing in 2004. Cayman Islands Olympic Committee
The Cayman Islands Olympic Committee was founded in 1973 and was recognised by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in 1976. From the beginning as a fledgling association, undertaking but a few tasks, it has now developed to a body representative of 22 member-sports, with significant undertakings at home and abroad. It is also the body responsible for the representation of the Cayman Islands at the Commonwealth Games. Cydonie Mothersill
Cydonie Camille Mothersille (born 19 March 1978) is a female former track and field sprinter from the Cayman Islands. Her speciality at the beginning of her career was the 100 metres, while the 200 metres gradually became her main event. She represented her country at four Olympic Games from 1996 to 2008, six World Championships in Athletics, and three Commonwealth Games. Her greatest achievements were in the 200 m, including a bronze at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, Commonwealth gold in 2010 and a silver at the 2003 Pan American Games. Her World Championship medal was the first ever for her nation. Mothersille was born in Jamaica in 1978 and moved to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands at age 7. While in high school, she was discovered by her high school's physical education teacher Evelyn Rockette and began her track career.
