The Cayman Islands competed at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, October 14–30, 2011. The Cayman Islands sent twelve athletes in four sports, the same number as from the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Chef de Mission of the team is general secretary of the Cayman Islands Football Association, Bruce Blake. The Cayman Islands won its first ever gold medal at the Pan American Games. Cayman Islands Olympic Committee
The Cayman Islands Olympic Committee was founded in 1973 and was recognised by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in 1976. From the beginning as a fledgling association, undertaking but a few tasks, it has now developed to a body representative of 22 member-sports, with significant undertakings at home and abroad. It is also the body responsible for the representation of the Cayman Islands at the Commonwealth Games. Donald McLean, who competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics, became the committee's president in 2005. Brett Fraser
Brett Michael Fraser (born August 28, 1989) is a competition swimmer and Pan American Games gold medalist from the Cayman Islands. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Fraser and his older brother, Shaune Fraser, were two of the three flag-bearers for the Cayman Islands. He competed in the 200 m backstroke. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was flagbearer for the Cayman Islands at the opening ceremony. He competed in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m freestyle events. He was a semi-finalist in the 100m and 200m freestyle, placing 14th and 12th overall, respectively. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he competed in the 50 m butterfly and the 50 m freestyle. The individual dressage competition of the equestrian events at the 2011 Pan American Games took place between October 16–19 at the Guadalajara Country Club and the Hipica Club. Michael Letterlough
Michael Letterlough (born 26 September 1984) is a Caymanian track and field athlete competing in the hammer throw. After graduating from John Gray High School on Grand Cayman, Letterlough attended Florida International University in Miami and currently trains under the guidance of Anatoliy Bondarchuk in Kamloops, British Columbia. During the course of his athletic career at Florida International, Letterlough won the 2006 Sun Belt Conference championship, set school records in the hammer throw and weight throw and was named Sun Belt Conference athlete of the week. During this time, he also set Cayman national records in the hammer throw, discus throw, and weight throw and served as the captain for the Cayman Islands team at the 2005 Island Games. Letterlough graduated from Florida International with a finance degree in 2006, but remained in Florida to continue training and improved his national record in the hammer throw to 58.10 meters in 2007.
