Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions. The 2008 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad () and also known as Beijing 2008 (), were an international multisport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China. Alberto Eugenio Mestre Sosa (born September 30, 1964) is a former competition swimmer who represented Venezuela at the 1980 Summer Olympics and 1984 Summer Olympics. Cayman Islands At The 2008 Summer Olympics
The Cayman Islands sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The delegation included fifteen people; of the delegation, four athletes participated under the Caymanian flag. In the track and field events was Ronald Forbes, who also served as the Cayman Islands' flag-bearer during the Opening Ceremony and reached quarterfinals in the 110m hurdles, and Cydonie Mothersille, who reached finals and ranked eighth in the 200m dash. Brothers Shaune and Brett Fraser, both swimmers, participated in the 100 and 200m freestyle and in the 200m backstroke, respectively. Brett Michael Fraser (born August 28, 1989) is a competition swimmer and Pan American Games gold medalist from the Cayman Islands. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Fraser and his older brother, Shaune Fraser, were two of the three flag-bearers for the Cayman Islands. He competed in the 200 m backstroke. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was flagbearer for the Cayman Islands at the opening ceremony. He competed in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m freestyle events. He was a semi-finalist in the 100m and 200m freestyle, placing 14th and 12th overall, respectively. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he competed in the 50 m butterfly and the 50 m freestyle. Gregg Troy (born December 19, 1950) is an American professional and Olympic swimming coach. As of April 2021, he is the head coach for the Cali Condors, which is part of the International Swimming League. Until 2018, he was the head coach of the Florida Gators swimming and diving teams of the University of Florida.
