Cavan
Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). History Gaelic Cavan 1300–1607 Cavan was founded by the Irish clan chief and Lord of East Breifne, Giolla Íosa Ruadh O’Reilly, between 1300 and his death in 1330. During his lordship, a friary run by the Dominican Order was established close to the O’Reilly stronghold at Tullymongan and was at the centre of the settlement close to a crossing over the river and to the town's marketplace. It is recorded that the (Cavan) Dominicans were expelled in 1393, replaced by an Order of Conventual Franciscan friars. Denn, Daniel O'Connells GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Crosskeys, County Cavan, Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. The club was founded in 1969 by Mikey McCabe following the merging of the two clubs in the parish, Drumavaddy & Crosskeys. History Denn GAA came into existence in 1969, following the merging of the two clubs in the parish, Drumavaddy & Crosskeys. Despite some near misses in the 70's success didn't arrive until the 80's when in 1982, Denn won the ACFL Div 3 league, the first adult county title to be won by the club. Two years later in centenary year Denn won their first ever championship, beating Mountnugent in the Junior decider. In 1986 Denn won promotion from Div 2 and in 1987 would play at the top tier of football in Cavan for the first time. Killygarry GAA
Killygarry are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History The Killygarry club area as it now stands had a football club down the years before the formation of the present club in 1966 but these teams went out of existence. Still the Killygarry area produced many players for neighbouring clubs (and county too). There were schoolboy football games between Killygarry, Crubany, Castletara and Swellan played at venues such as Crowe's Rock or behind Fitzpatrick's shop. These were played several times a year and continued at various age levels to eighteen or so. Around the late 50s/early 60s a number of promising minor players were coming along and the idea of playing for a club team under the Killygarry name was tossed around. Castlerahan GAA
Castlerahan is a Gaelic football club from Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland. They take their name from the Castlerahan barony in which Ballyjamesduff is located. History The club was founded in its current state in 1961, Ballyjamesduff and Castlerahan fielding separate teams prior to then. The club reached its first Senior Championship final in 1968, losing to Crosserlough. In 2011, the club reached its first senior final since 1968. They lost the final heavily to Cavan Gaels. It was four years before Castlerahan reached another county final against Kingscourt Stars in 2015. Castlerahan came up one point short on that occasion. Cornafean is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the rural parishes of Killeshandra and Kilmore, in County Cavan, Ireland. The club plays Gaelic Football and competes in Cavan GAA competitions. Cornafean is the most successful club in Cavan, having won 20 Cavan Senior Football Championships. Cootehill Celtic is a Gaelic games club from County Cavan in Ireland. It is affiliated to Cavan GAA. It fields teams at every age group in both Gaelic football and hurling and is the only dual club in county Cavan. Mullahoran GFC
Mullahoran GAA is a Gaelic games club from County Cavan in Ireland. Founded in 1888, it is affiliated to Cavan GAA. The club's nickname is ''the Dreadnoughts''. It is a rural club located in the parish of Mullahoran in south Cavan, approximately 10 miles from Cavan town. Gaelic football, rounders, hurling and handball are played at the club and numerous county and national honours have been won in the past in these codes. Gaelic football Mullahoran have the third-best record in the Cavan Championship with 12 wins, the first being in 1935 and the most recent in 2012. Drumlane Sons of O’Connell is a Gaelic football club based in Milltown, County Cavan, Ireland. The club takes its name from the parish of Drumlane. The club's crest features the Drumlane Abbey and Round tower. History Drumlane GAA was founded in 1888, and won the Cavan Senior Football Championship four times in the early 1900s. Killeshandra GFC
Killeshandra are a Gaelic football club from Killeshandra, County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History In 1889 there were three clubs in the parish, Arva Davitts, Killeshandra National Leaguers and Cornafean Tom Moronies. By the 1890s the G.A.A. had more or less died out in the area. However, by 1900 it began to re-emerge. In 1901 there were two teams in the parish, Drumanery Emmets and Killeshandra De Wits. Throughout the next few years various teams in the parish would come and go. During the 1910s and 1920s the Leaguers had great difficulty in surviving as a club. Cornafean, founded in 1908, would quickly establish itself as one of the leading clubs in the county competing at Senior Level Football. Lacken are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History Lacken Celtic GFC was formed in the 1890s by men who returned from working overseas in Scotland. The club got its name in honour of the Glasgow Celtic Soccer Club and the team wore the green and white jerseys synonymous with the Celtic club. At the time, the home pitch was known as "The Green" and was located on the banks of the River Erne (beside Scarvey Bridge, Corlismore).
