Kingscourt Stars is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Kingscourt, County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. The club was founded in 1890. They are the fourth most successful team in Cavan GAA history, winning 11 Senior Championships, their latest occurring in 2015. Kingscourt
Kingscourt, historically known as Dunaree (), is a town in County Cavan, Ireland. It is located near the Cavan– Meath border. The town was founded near the site of the old village of Cabra, by Mervyn Pratt, towards the end of the 18th century, and was completed by his brother, The Rev. Joseph Pratt. History Cabra Castle, an early 19th-century 'Gothick-style' castle, is located very near the town, being on the R179 road (known locally as the Carrickmacross Road). The castle was originally called Cormey Castle and was built on the site of an earlier Cormey Castle which had been destroyed during the Cromwellian War. The castle has, in recent years, been restored and expanded and is now a four-star hotel which is popular for weddings. The Cavan County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae an Chabháin) or Cavan GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Cavan. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Cavan county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team won 5 All-Ireland Senior Football Championships before going into decline after 1970. Padraig Faulkner (Gaelic Footballer)
Padraig Faulkner (born 1994) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a full back for Kingscourt Stars and the Cavan county team. Playing career Club Faulkner joined the Kingscourt Stars club at a young age. Kingscourt amalgamated with Shercock for the 2011 Minor championship, and reached the final against Cavan Gaels. Faulkner was in the half-back line as the amalgamation won the final by six points. Faulkner later joined the club's senior team. On 30 September 2012, Faulkner started at corner back against Mullahoran in his first county final, which ended in a draw. Faulkner kept his position for the replay on 7 October 2012. Faulkner scored a point from play but Kingscourt fell to a 1–8 to 0–7 defeat. Kingscourt returned to the county final again in 2014, facing Cavan Gaels on 12 October. Victor Sherlock
Victor Sherlock (1924–2004) was a Gaelic footballer who played for Meath and Cavan. Among other honours, he won All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals in 1948 and 1952 with Cavan. Playing career Sherlock was a versatile footballer. He played left half forward with Meath winning the 1945/46 National Football League beating Wexford 2-2 to 6 pts and he won a Leinster Senior Football Championship medal in 1947. He then transferred to Cavan where he formed a brilliant midfield partnership with Phil 'The Gunner' Brady and scored a goal against Mayo in the 1948 Final. Phil Brady become his brother-in-law in 1953. He won his 2nd National Football League medal in 1949/50 season. He collected 4 Railway Cup medals with Ulster. Sherlock received many Ulster handball championship medals and one Junior All-Ireland singles medal in 1949. Cavan Senior Football Championship
The Cavan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Cavan Gaelic football clubs. It was first competed for in 1888. The winners get the Oliver Plunkett Cup and qualifies to represent their county in the Ulster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Cornafean have won the most titles, having been victorious 20 times. The current Senior football champions are Gowna after beating Killygarry in the final of 2022. Format 12 teams will contest the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship. The championship shall be run on a league basis up to the Quarter-Final stage and Knock-out thereafter. 2015 Cavan Senior Football Championship
The 2015 Cavan Senior Football Championship was the 107th edition of Cavan GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Cavan, Ireland. The tournament consists of 17 teams, with the winner going on to represent Cavan in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. Cavan Gaels were the defending champions, having defeated Kingscourt Stars in the previous years final. Kingscourt ended their reign at the quarter-final stage. Kingscourt went on to win the championship by beating Castlerahan in the final. This was their 11th title overall, and their first since 2010. The Cavan Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the middle-tier Gaelic football clubs organised by Cavan GAA. It was first competed for in 1915, before a lapse prior to being revived in 1966. The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship.
