Casa Vasari, Arezzo
The Casa Vasari is a building at 55 via XX Settembre in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy. It was the family home of the painter, art historian and architect Giorgio Vasari. It houses a number of frescoes and since December 2014 the Italian Ministry of Culture has run it through the Polo museale della Toscana, which was renamed the Direzione regionale Musei in December 2019. It houses the Archivio Vasariano. History Vasari acquired the house and the plot of land on which it lies in a contract dated 7 September 1541 and began decorating it the following year. In 1550 he married Niccolosa Bacci and moved into the building with her. Kept busy in Florence, Rome and on several journeys, he only lived in the house himself for short periods, perhaps intervening directly in works to complete and decorate it and acquire the initial nucleus of its furnishings (the latter now all lost). Alessandro Allori
Alessandro di Cristofano di Lorenzo del Bronzino Allori (Florence, 31 May 153522 September 1607) was an Italian painter of the late Mannerist Florentine school. Biography In 1540, after the death of his father, Allori was brought up and trained in art by a close friend, often referred to as his 'uncle', the mannerist painter Agnolo Bronzino, whose name he sometimes assumed in his pictures. Allori supplemented this training with a study trip to Rome, between 1554 and 1560, and with anatomical research which included the dissection of human corpses, provided by the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova. In the prime of his career, Allori headed one of the "two most important workshops in Florence in the second half of the 16th century" (the other being headed by Santi di Tito). Maso Da San Friano
Maso da San Friano (1536–1571) was an Italian painter active in Florence. His real name was Tomaso D'Antonio Manzuoli. He was born in San Friano and died in Florence. According to Giorgio Vasari, Maso was a pupil of Pier Francesco Foschi while others claim it was Carlo Portelli. He collaborated with an elder Michelangelo on some projects. His altarpiece of the ''Visitation'' was painted in 1560 for the church of San Pier Maggiore, Florence - now in Trinity Hall Chapel, Cambridge, England. Santi Di Tito
Santi di Tito (5 December 1536 – 25 July 1603) was one of the most influential and leading Italian painters of the proto-Baroque style – what is sometimes referred to as "Counter-Maniera" or Counter-Mannerism. Biography He was born in Florence, then its own city-state. There is little documentation to support the alleged training under Bronzino or Baccio Bandinelli. Carlo Portelli (died 1574) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period, active mainly in Florence. He is also called ''Porteolli'' or ''Carlo di Galeotto Partelli da Loro''. Born in Loro Ciuffenna, Loro in the Valdarno, he was a pupil of Ridolfo Ghirlandaio. The artist Vasari took note of his abilities. Portelli painted several altarpieces for churches of Florence, including for the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Florence, Santa Maria Maggiore. Andrea Sansovino
Andrea dal Monte Sansovino or Andrea Contucci del Monte San Savino (1529) was an Italian sculptor active during the High Renaissance. His pupils include Jacopo Sansovino (no relation). Biography He was the son of Domenico Contucci of Monte Sansovino, and was born at Monte San Savino near Arezzo, hence his name, which is usually softened to Sansovino. He was a pupil of Antonio del Pollaiuolo, and at first worked in the style of 15th-century Florence. Bartolomeo Della Gatta
Bartolomeo della Gatta (1448–1502), born Pietro di Antonio Dei, was an Italian (Florentine) painter, illuminator, and architect. He was the son of a goldsmith. He was a colleague of Fra Bartolommeo. In 1468, Bartolomeo became a monk in the Order of Camaldoli, which his brother Nicolo had already entered. Upon taking holy orders, he changed his name to Bartolomeo. Luca Signorelli ( – 16 October 1523) was an Italian Renaissance painter from Cortona in Tuscany, who was noted in particular for his ability as a draftsman and his use of foreshortening. His massive frescos of the ''Last Judgment'' (1499–1503) in Orvieto Cathedral are considered his masterpiece. In his early 40s he returned to live in Cortona, after working in Florence, Siena and Rome (1478–84, painting a now lost section of the Sistine Chapel). With an established reputation, he remained based in Cortona for the rest of his life, but often travelled to the cities of the region to fulfill commissions. He was probably trained by Piero della Francesca in Florence, as his cousin Giorgio Vasari wrote, and his Quattrocento style became rather out of date in the new century.
