Carli Biessels
Carli Biessels (1936 – 16 September 2016) was a Dutch writer of children's literature. Biography Biessels was born and died in Nijmegen, where she studied pedagogy. Biessels worked in the field of children psychiatry and orthopedagogy. Before writing books for children Biessels wrote various stories for children's magazines ''Okki'' and ''Taptoe''. Biessels made her debut as author at 62 years of age with her book ''Twee druppels water'' (1998). The book was on the Longlist for the Gouden Uil award in 1999. In 2010, she won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for her book ''Juwelen van stras''. She also received the Vlag en Wimpel award in 2001 for her book ''De feestrede'' and in 2007 for her book ''Irah en de dieren''. Her last book ''Ik moet je iets belangrijks vertellen'' (2016) was published posthumously. Nijmegen
Nijmegen (;; Spanish and it, Nimega. Nijmeegs: ''Nimwèège'' ) is the largest city in the Dutch province of Gelderland and tenth largest of the Netherlands as a whole, located on the Waal river close to the German border. It is about 60 km south east of Utrecht and 50 km north east of Eindhoven. Marije Tolman
Marije Tolman (born 1976) is a Dutch illustrator of children's literature. Career In 2010, she won the Gouden Penseel award together with her father Ronald Tolman for her illustrations in the book ''De boomhut''. She also won the Vlag en Wimpel award in 2008 for her illustrations in the book ''Mejuffrouw Muis en haar heerlijke huis'' written by Elle van Lieshout and in 2018 for her illustrations in the book ''Voor papa'' written by Daan Remmerts de Vries. In 2019, she won the Zilveren Penseel award for her illustrations in the book ''Vosje'' written by Edward van de Vendel. Digital Library For Dutch Literature
The Digital Library for Dutch Literature (Dutch: Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren or DBNL) is a website (showing the abbreviation as dbnl) about Dutch language and Dutch literature. It contains thousands of literary texts, secondary literature and additional information, like biographies, portrayals etcetera, and hyperlinks. The DBNL is an initiative by the DBNL foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Society of Dutch Literature (Dutch: Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde). Building of the DNBL was made possible by donations, among others, from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (Dutch: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek or NWO) and the Nederlandse Taalunie. From 2008 to 2012, the editor was René van Stipriaan. The work is done by eight people in Leiden (as of 2013: The Hague), 20 students, and 50 people in the Philippines who scan and type the texts. Mirjam Pressler
Mirjam Pressler, born Mirjam Gunkel (18 June 1940 – 16 January 2019) was a German novelist and translator. Being the author of more than 30 children's and teenage books, she also translated into German more than 300 works by other writers from Hebrew, English, Dutch and Afrikaans. She is also known for translating a revision of Anne Frank's diary, ''The Diary of a Young Girl'', in 1991, thus renewing its copyright. Born to a Jewish mother, Pressler was raised in a foster home. She studied painting at Städelschule in Frankfurt as well as English and French literary studies at LMU Munich. Before becoming a writer, she was a jeans shop retailer for eight years, who, as a single mother, raised three daughters. Later, she became a member of the PEN Centre Germany. Hanni Ehlers (born 2 August 1954, Eutin) is a German translator known for translating English and Dutch literature into German. Career Ehlers has translated books written by numerous Dutch authors, including Renate Dorrestein, Guus Kuijer, Joke van Leeuwen, Connie Palmen and Els Pelgrom. Other authors include Carli Biessels, Jessica Durlacher, Anna Enquist, Nelleke Noordervliet and Leon de Winter. Wolf Erlbruch
Wolf Erlbruch (30 June 1948 – 11 December 2022) was a German illustrator and writer of children's books, who became professor at several universities. He combined various techniques for the artwork in his books, including cutting and pasting, drawing, and painting. His style was sometimes surrealist and is widely copied inside and outside Germany. Some of his storybooks have challenging themes such as death and the meaning of life. They won many awards, including the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis in 1993 and 2003. Erlbruch received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 2006 for his "lasting contribution" as a children's illustrator. In 2017, he was the first German to win the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
