Carl Jeppesen
Carl Jeppesen (16 March 1858 – 26 January 1930) was a Danish-born Norwegian worker, newspaper editor and politician. He edited the newspaper ''Social-Demokraten'' from 1887 to 1892, and from 1906 to 1912. He was among the founders of the Norwegian Labour Party, and served as chairman for two periods, from 1890 to 1892, and from 1894 to 1897. He was Mayor of Kristiania from 1917 to 1919. Personal life Jeppesen was born in Copenhagen as the son of Jens Jeppesen and Marie Fredrikke Petrine Tauer. He grew up in Copenhagen with adoptive parents, having been adopted as a one-year-old child. He married Hulda Johanne Schmidt in 1878. He died in Oslo in 1930. Career Jeppesen started working as a cigar riddler. After periods of unemployment he settled in Kristiania in 1878, working as brushmaker. Social Democratic Labour Party Of Norway
The Social Democratic Labour Party of Norway (in Norwegian ''Norges Socialdemokratiske Arbeiderparti'') was a Norwegian political party in the 1920s. Following the Labour Party's entry into the Comintern in 1919 its right wing left the party to form the Social Democratic Labour Party in 1921. At the party convention in 1923, however, the Labour Party withdrew from Comintern, and the Communist Party of Norway was formed by the minority, who continued its affiliation with Comintern and the Soviet Union until 1991. The Social Democratic Labour Party was absorbed into the reorganised Labour Party in 1927. The youth wing of the party was the Socialist Youth League of Norway. He was born as Peder Haraldsen in Skien as a son of Peder Haraldsen, Sr. (1813–1887) og Caroline Mathilde Pedersen (1828–1907). Jacob Vidnes
Jacob Laurentius Vidnes (5 November 1875 – 4 October 1940) was a Norwegian trade unionist, newspaper editor, politician for the Labour Party and civil servant. He was born in Vanylven as a son of farmer Knud Larsen Vidnes (1819–98) og Laurine Knudsdatter (1832–1910). In May 1929 he married hotelier's daughter Sigrid Birkeland (1900–1989), who after the death of Vidnes married Arne Ording. He graduated from Volda Teachers' College in 1896, moved to Oslo as subeditor of ''Arbeideren'' in 1898 and was hired in the Labour Party main newspaper ''Social-Demokraten'' in 1899. In 1900 he was a co-founder and first chairman of ''Kristiania socialdemokratiske Ungdomslag''. He was then one of the founders of Norges Socialdemokratiske Ungdomsforbund in 1903. Olav Kringen
Olav Kringen (24 July 1867 – 6 October 1951) was a Norwegian newspaper editor. He was born at a croft in Sel, and was a manual laborer in Norway before emigrating to the United States in 1887. There, he studied and took a teacher education. He worked as a teacher in Minnesota and Dakota. For the next two years he worked in the press, editing the magazine ''Nye Nordmanden'' and '' Fremad''. He was also a correspondent for the newspaper ''Labour Leader'', having been influenced by Keir Hardie and socialism in general. Upon his return to Norway in 1897, he became affiliated with the Labour Party, and was hired in their newspaper ''Social-Demokraten''. He was involved in the Second International from 1900 to 1906, being a delegate at the International Socialist Congress, Paris 1900 and the International Socialist Congress, Amsterdam 1904. Ludvig Meyer (22 April 1861 – 3 January 1938) was a Norwegian barrister, newspaper editor and politician. He belonged to the Norwegian Labour Party 1891 to 1903, and was both party leader, party secretary as well as editor of the party organ ''Social-Demokraten'' for a period. Before this he had made his mark as the defender of writer Hans Jæger. Biography Meyer was born in Borre, and was the older brother of Nanna Meyer. He graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1882, and spent his professional life as a barrister, with access to Supreme Court cases, from 1886 to 1936. He became known as the defender of writer Hans Jæger in a high-profile case over censorship. Jæger's book '' Fra Kristiania-Bohêmen'', published on 11 December 1885, was instantly banned by the Ministry of Justice for its indecency, and confiscated by the police.
