Carl-Johan Edström
Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström (born 21 May 1967) is a Swedish Air Force officer. He currently serves as Chief of Joint Operations since 1 January 2023. Prior to that Edström served as Chief of Air Force from 2019 to 2022. Early life Edström was born on 21 May 1967 in Nora, Sweden, and was raised in Klutmark, a village 10 kilometers west of Skellefteå. Carl-Johan Edström is twin brother of Swedish Air Force colonel Carl-Fredrik Edström. Carl-Johan Edström started his military career as platoon leader in the Norrland Brigade in Västerbotten Regiment (I 20) in Umeå in 1988. Career Edström trained as a pilot at the Swedish Air Force Flying School in Ljungbyhed and was commissioned as an officer in 1989 with the rank of second lieutenant in Norrbotten Wing. An aviator call sign or aviator callsign is a call sign given to a military pilot, flight officer, and even some enlisted aviators. The call sign is a specialized form of nickname that is used as a substitute for the aviator's given name. It is used on flight suit and flight jacket name tags, painted/displayed beneath the officer's or enlisted aircrewman's name on aircraft fuselages or canopy rails, and in radio conversations. They are most commonly used in tactical jet aircraft communities (i.e., fighter, bomber, attack) than in other aircraft communities (i.e., airlift, mobility, maritime patrol), but their use is not totally exclusive to the former. Lieutenant General Leif ''Michael'' Claesson (born 1 March 1965) is a Swedish Army officer. He served as the Chief of Policy and Plans Department in the Defence Staff from 2018 to 2020. Claesson currently serves av Chief of Joint Operations. It was officially established in 1936 as a result of the Defence Act of 1936 and would handle matters of a general nature.
