Capture Of Mazatlán
The Capture of Mazatlán was a Mexican victory during the Maximilian Affair. Mazatlán was a key port of the Pacific trade routes yielding between $4 and $5 million a year. First battle After his arrival in the city, Colonel Gaspar Sanchez Ochoa rapidly fortified the northern land entrance of the city at the foot of the Nevería hill, extending to the old harbor. On the opposite side, towards the town, he set up his headquarters on the beach, and installed some small pieces of artillery. Additionally, groups of soldiers were placed in reserve in a well situated position to the west, where there are three islands close to the side of the old port. Mazatlán
Mazatlán () is a city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The city serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding ''municipio'', known as the Mazatlán Municipality. It is located at on the Pacific coast, across from the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula. ''Mazatlán'' is a Nahuatl word meaning "place of deer". The city was founded in 1531 by an army of Spaniards and indigenous people. By the mid-19th century, a large group of immigrants arrived from Germany. Over time, Mazatlán developed into a commercial seaport, importing equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. It served as the capital of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873. The German settlers also influenced the local music, banda, with some genres being an alteration of Bavarian folk music. The settlers also established the Pacifico Brewery on March 14, 1900. San Blas, Nayarit
San Blas is both a municipality and municipal seat located on the Pacific coast of Mexico in Nayarit. City San Blas is a port and popular tourist destination, located about north of Puerto Vallarta, and west of the state capital Tepic, and three hours drive from Guadalajara. Zouaves
The Zouaves were a class of light infantry regiments of the French Army serving between 1830 and 1962 and linked to French North Africa; as well as some units of other countries modelled upon them. The zouaves were among the most decorated units of the French Army. It was initially intended that the zouaves would be a regiment of Berbers, Berber volunteers from the Igawawen, Zwawa group of tribes in Algeria ("Zwawa" being the origin of the French term ''wikt:zouave#French, zouave'') who had gained a martial reputation fighting for local rulers under the Ottoman Empire. José Antonio Abundio de Jesús Rosales Flores was a Mexican Brigadier General during the Reform War and the Second French intervention in Mexico. Also known as the ''Hero of San Pedro'' for his victory at the Battle of San Pedro, Rosales was the Governor of Sinaloa after overthrowing Jesús García Morales from October 5, 1864, to March 9, 1865, before being killed at the Battle of Álamos. Early years He was born on July 11, 1822, in Juchipila, Zacatecas. He studied elementary school in the state of Zacatecas, and upon completion of these studies, he was sent by his parents to the Guadalajara Seminary to continue his high school studies.
