Cameron is an unincorporated community in Warren County, Illinois, United States. Cameron is east-southeast of Monmouth. Cameron has a post office with ZIP code 61423. Cameron is at the junction of the old Chicago, Burlington and Quincy and Santa Fe Railroads, both now owned by BNSF. Cameron is the site of a 1996 connection track that was built between the former Burlington Northern line and the former Santa Fe's Chilicothe Subdivision, when the two merged to form the BNSF. This track allows both freight trains, along with Amtrak's Southwest Chief to use the Chicago and Mendota subdivisions between Chicago and Galesburg (already used by the California Zephyr), by way of Naperville, Princeton and Mendota. The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad was a railroad that operated in the Midwestern United States. Commonly referred to as the Burlington Route, the Burlington, or as the Q, it operated extensive trackage in the states of Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and also in Texas through subsidiaries Colorado and Southern Railway, Fort Worth and Denver Railway, and Burlington-Rock Island Railroad. Joliet Union Station
Joliet Union Station was a train station in Joliet, Illinois that served Amtrak long-distance and Metra commuter trains. It was replaced by the new Joliet Transportation Center in 2018, a train station that was constructed adjacent to the Union Station's location. The ''Super Chief'' was one of the named passenger trains and the flagship of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Galesburg is an Amtrak intercity train station in Galesburg, Illinois, United States. The station was originally built in 1984, after the razing of the large depot just south of the current site. It is located north of the large BNSF Classification yard. Just south the ''Illinois Zephyr'' and ''Carl Sandburg'' diverge via the Quincy main line which bypasses the yard on the east side. The ''California Zephyr'' and the ''Southwest Chief'' continue to the southwest side of Galesburg near Knox College. There are three tracks with one island platform and one side platform. Trains to California normally arrive on the track closest to the depot, known as track one. Trains between Quincy and Chicago arrive on track two and platform on the island platform as trains divert from the main line just south of the station and eventually on to the Brookfield Subdivision.
