Cam Davidson
Campbell Davidson (May 22, 1877 – February 16, 1940) was a Canadian ice hockey player for the Montreal Victorias during the late 19th century. He was a member of two Stanley Cup championship teams with the Victorias, in 1897 and 1899. Cam (or Cammy) Davidson was a younger brother of Shirley Davidson who also played on the Victorias in the AHAC. Montreal Victorias
The Victoria Hockey Club of Montreal, Quebec, Canada was an early men's amateur ice hockey club. Its date of origin is ascribed to either 1874, 1877 or 1881, making it either the first or second organized ice hockey club after McGill University. The club played at its own rink, the Victoria Skating Rink in Montreal. The club was winners of the Stanley Cup in 1895 and held it until 1899, except for a period in 1896. The club remained amateur, splitting from the ranks of teams turned professional in 1908. The club was the first winner of the Allan Cup and continued to play until 1939, when it folded after its 65th season. The club often also fielded junior and intermediate teams. The Stanley Cup (french: La Coupe Stanley) is the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It is the oldest existing trophy to be awarded to a professional sports franchise in North America, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers it to be one of the "most important championships available to the sport". The trophy was commissioned in 1892 as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup and is named after Lord Stanley of Preston, the Governor General of Canada, who donated it as an award to Canada's top-ranking amateur ice hockey club. Shirley Davidson
Shirley Davidson (September 23, 1874 – August 5, 1907) was a Canadian ice hockey player for the Montreal Victorias during the late 19th century. He was a member of several Stanley Cup Championship teams in the 1895, 1896 and 1897 AHAC seasons. Playing career Shirley Davidson was a noted hockey and football player, and an accomplished sailor. He was also the brother of noted player and teammate Cam Davidson. Shirley played his entire career for the Montreal Victorias. He began by playing three seasons with the junior club before moving up to the senior team in the 1892–93 AHAC season. Shirley attended McGill University in Montreal for an engineering degree, while playing for the junior Vics. Amateur Hockey Association Of Canada
The Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC) was an amateur men's ice hockey league founded on 8 December 1886, in existence until 1898. It was the second ice hockey league organized in Canada, after one in Kingston, Ontario started in 1883. It was organized to provide a longer season to determine the Canadian champion. Prior to its founding, the Canadian championship was determined in a tournament in Montreal. It is the first championship ice hockey league. The 1893 champion of the league, Montreal Hockey Club was the first winner of the newly introduced Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup (later known as the Stanley Cup). Charles Peers Davidson
Sir Charles Peers Davidson (January 1841 – January 29, 1929) was a Canadian lawyer and judge. Born in Huntingdon, Lower Canada to Capt. Alexander Davidson and Marion Peers, Davidson was educated at McGill University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1863, a Master of Arts degree in 1867, a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1873, and a D.C.L. in 1875. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. from McGill in 1912. He was appointed to the Quebec Bar in 1864 and was made a Queen's Counsel in 1876. Charles fathered seven children by his wife, Alice Harriet Mattice (aunt to the namer of Mattice-Val Côté), including Cam and Shirley Davidson (who both won the Stanley Cup) and Thornton Davidson.
