Call Me (EP)
''Call Me'' is an EP by British heavy metal band Diamond Head, released in 1982 by MCA. It was a single A-side featuring "Call Me", with "Dead Reckoning" as the B-Side. The French release was only available on 7". Both songs were popular in the band's live set, but only "Call Me" made it onto the band's 1982 album '' Borrowed Time''. "Dead Reckoning" was later available on Diamond Head's 1987 compilation album ''Am I Evil''. Both tracks had previously appeared on the '' Four Cuts'' EP. As this was released through a major label, the band were able to produce a promotional video for this single. The video shows the band performing "Call Me" and was shot at the Manchester Odeon. Diamond Head (English Band)
Diamond Head are an English heavy metal band formed in 1976 in Stourbridge, West Midlands. The band was part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement and is acknowledged by thrash metal bands such as Metallica and Megadeth as an important early influence. History Early history Brian Tatler formed the band with drummer Duncan Scott while both still at school. In June 1976 they found singer Sean Harris, who was in the same year, and went through three bass players before settling on Collin Kimberley in Feb 1978. The band recorded two self-financed demo tapes in 1979. They were recorded within six hours on a four-track, one of which was sent to Geoff Barton at Sounds. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. ''Four Cuts'' is an EP by heavy metal band Diamond Head and was released in 1982. It was a double A-side with "Call Me" and "Trick or Treat", and was released by MCA. The EP also contained "Dead Reckoning" and a re-recorded version of "Shoot Out the Lights" as the two B-sides. This was the band's first release on a major label, and was designed to be a taster for their second album. "Call Me" was later released as a single in its own right later that same year. The song also appeared on Diamond Head's second studio album, '' Borrowed Time'', their first album to be released by MCA. "Trick or Treat" and "Dead Reckoning" were favourites in the band's live set during the 80s. However, neither song made it onto the ''Borrowed Time'' album until it was re-released in 2007 by Polish based label Metal Mind Productions (this release was limited to 2000 copies until Geffen Records put the remastered album, along with the band's third album Canterbury, on general release). The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. ''Borrowed Time'' is the second studio album by British heavy metal band Diamond Head. It was recorded in 1981 and released in 1982, reaching Number 24 on the UK Albums Chart. In a 2008 interview, guitarist Brian Tatler said that this was his favourite period with Diamond Head and that the band "seemed to be getting somewhere after six years of building". Background This was the band's first major label released after being signed to MCA Records in 1981. As this was their first album under a major label, the album was much cleaner and better produced. However, some say that MCA was the wrong label for Diamond Head, which is one of the contributions to their downfall. ''Am I Evil'' is a compilation album by British heavy metal band Diamond Head. It was released in 1987 by FM-Revolver Records before being re-released by Heavy Metal Records in 1994. This album contains early recordings of the tracks from Diamond Head's 1982 album '' Borrowed Time'', except for the song "Call Me", plus two extra tracks, "Dead Reckoning" and "Sucking My Love". The latter was previously released on the band's 1980 debut album ''Lightning to the Nations''. The former had already been released on two previous Diamond Head records. It appears on the ''Four Cuts'' EP and as a B-side to the single "Call Me"; both were released by MCA in 1982 (however, the 7" version of "Call Me" was only released in France).
