Démosthènes Pétrus Calixte
Démosthènes Pétrus Calixte ( – unknown) was a Haitian conservative noirist politician and military figure who led the Garde d'Haïti. In 1937, Calixte became involved in political chaos, where officers within the Garde tried to overthrow president Sténio Vincent and replace him with Calixte. This led to the replacement of Calixte, who fled to the Dominican Republic. Upon his return in the 1940s, Calixte was made a presidential candidate by the Mouvement Ouvriers et Paysans in 1946. However, he lost the election to Dumarsais Estimé. Career in the Garde Calixte signed onto the Garde d'Haïti in 1915 as a private, rising in the ranks until he reached the rank of major. During his military career, he trained under the United States Marine Corps (USMC). As a major in December 1930, the US gave him one out of the five military departments of the Garde as part of the process of Haitianization within the Garde, as they were withdrawing from their occupation of Haiti. Orlando Calixte (born February 3, 1992) is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder and shortstop for the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants. Background Calixte was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to parents born in Haiti. His father Dieudonne, emigrated to the Dominican Republic in 1977; obtained legal status and had several other children who also pursued baseball. Saint-Calixte, Quebec
Saint-Calixte is a municipality and town in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Montcalm Regional County Municipality. Its proximity to the city of Montreal, and its natural environment, make Saint-Calixte a destination for camping in the summertime. Calixte Delmas (17 June 1906 – 7 April 1927) was a French wrestler and rugby player. He competed in the freestyle featherweight event at the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1922, he was the wrestling champion of Paris and the Greco-Roman vice-champion of France at 15. In 1924 he was the national champion and the youngest participant at the 1924 Olympics in Paris, where he reached the quarter finals. He died from an accident at the military school in Joinville-le-Pont. He fell from a human pyramid and broke his neck. Calixte Duguay, (born July 15, 1939) is a multi-disciplinarian Canadian artist born in Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël, on Lamèque Island. In 2009, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada "for the impact he has had on the Acadian and Canadian music scene as a writer, composer and singer". Joseph Arthur Calixte Éthier, (May 26, 1868 – August 14, 1936) was a Canadian politician. Born in St-Benoît, Quebec, the son of J. B. Éthier and Julie Boyer, Éthier was educated at Montreal College. A lawyer, he was called to the Quebec Bar in 1895 and was created a King's Counsel in 1906. He was Deputy-prothonotary for the District of Terrebonne from 1888 to 1895 and was a Crown Prosecutor for that District in 1901. He was mayor of Ste. Scholastique, Quebec from 1899 to 1906.
