Calapan
Calapan, officially the City of Calapan ( fil, Lungsod ng Calapan), is a 3rd class Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city and capital of the Provinces of the Philippines, province of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 145,786 people. The city serves as the gateway to the Oriental Mindoro province with the implementation of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) an integrated ferry project of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that extends further to the southern part of the Philippines. The Calapan City Seaport is the largest and busiest seaport on Mindoro, Mindoro Island, which is just 45 minutes away by ferry boats and roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ships to-and-fro Batangas City International Seaport. Oriental Mindoro
Oriental Mindoro ( tl, Silangang Mindoro), officially the Province of Oriental Mindoro, is a province in the Philippines located on the island of Mindoro under Mimaropa region in Luzon, about southwest of Manila. The province is bordered by the Verde Island Passage and the rest of Batangas to the north, by Marinduque, Maestre de Campo (or known as ''Sibale'' but official name is ''Concepcion'') Island, Tablas Strait and the rest of Romblon to the east, by Semirara and the rest of Caluya Islands, Antique to the south, and by Occidental Mindoro to the west. Arnan Panaligan
Arnan Capulong Panaligan (born January 21, 1962) is a Filipino lawyer and politician. He has served as the representative for Oriental Mindoro's 1st congressional district since 2022 as part of the local Mindoro Bago Sarili party. He had previously served as the Mayor of Calapan from 2013 to 2022, having previously been mayor from 1995 to 2004. He was also the Governor of Oriental Mindoro from 2004 to 2010. Early career Panaligan was born in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro on January 21, 1962 to Leandro and Araceli Panaligan. He studied at Holy Infant Academy before attending Ateneo De Manila University where he studied law. He also studied at Divine Word College of Calapan. After qualifying for the bar in 1987, Panaligan worked as a legal researcher at the Supreme Court, as well as a technical assistant at the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET). Mindoro
Mindoro is the seventh largest and eighth-most populous island in the Philippines. With a total land area of 10,571 km2 ( 4,082 sq.mi ) and has a population of 1,408,454 as of 2020 census. The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is the local legislative body of a city governments in the Philippines. The name of the legislative body comes from the Tagalog words "''sanggunian''" ("council") – ultimately from the rootword "''sangguni''" ("to consult") – and "''lungsod''" ("city"); "city council" is therefore often used as an equivalent term.
