CIHT-FM (89.9 FM, ''Hot 89.9'') is a radio station licensed to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts a CHR/Top 40 format. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2001 to broadcast a rhythmic CHR/dance format known as ''The Planet 89.9''. The station launched on February 7, 2003 as ''The New Hot 89.9'' under a rhythmic contemporary format, but flipped to its current format after 105.3 Kiss FM signed on the air in 2004. History The station was launched on August 31, 1982, by Standard Broadcasting at 540 AM, with the call sign CJSB and a power of 50,000 watts (daytime) and 10,000 watts (nighttime). CILV-FM (88.5 MHz, ''Live 88.5'') is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Ottawa, Ontario. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts an alternative rock format. Its radio studios and offices are on Antares Drive in Nepean. CILV-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 37,000 watts (90,000 watts maximum). While most Ottawa FM stations have their towers in Gatineau Park, CILV-FM's transmitter is off Old Prescott Road near Spring Hill Road in Greely, Ontario. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2005. CILV began testing its signal and streaming online on November 30, and officially signed on the air at Noon on December 26, 2005. Astral Media Inc. was a Canadian media conglomerate. It was Canada's largest radio broadcaster, with 84 radio stations in eight provinces. Astral was also a major player in premium and specialty television in Canada, with 23 specialty channels and two conventional stations. In addition, Astral had a presence in out-of-home advertising. In March 2012, Bell Media announced its intent to acquire Astral for $3.38 billion. Although an attempt to purchase the entirety of the company was blocked under competition law, the CRTC approved a revised offer on June 27, 2013, which saw various Astral specialty channels and radio stations divested to competitors. In the music industry, the Top 40 is the current, 40 most-popular songs in a particular genre. It is the best-selling or most frequently broadcast popular music. The Rhythmic chart (also called Rhythmic Airplay, and previously named Rhythmic Songs, Rhythmic Top 40 and CHR/Rhythmic) is an airplay chart published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. The chart tracks and measures the airplay of songs played on rhythmic radio stations, whose playlist includes mostly hit-driven R&B/hip-hop, rhythmic pop, and some dance tracks.
