At the 2016 census, the population was 571. Bushfield Post Office opened on 16 February 1885 and closed in 1974. The Bushfield Oval is popular during the New Year's Eve celebrations. It is the home of the North Warrnambool Football Club, the club was formed when the local Bushfield side merged with the Grassmere team and called themselves Northern Districts. Electoral District Of South-West Coast
The electoral district of South-West Coast is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created prior to the 2002 election in order to replace the abolished seats of Portland and Warrnambool. The seat is dominated by the town of Warrnambool, but also includes Portland, Port Fairy, Koroit, Heywood and Macarthur. South-West Coast is located in ancestrally Liberal territory, and was thus a natural choice for Portland's former member, Denis Napthine, to transfer for the 2002 election. He barely held onto his seat in the Labor landslide of that year, seeing his margin reduced to only 0.7 percent. However, it has reverted to its previous form as a safe Liberal seat. Napthine subsequently served as Premier of Victoria from 2013 to 2014. Following his government's election loss to Labor in November 2014, Napthine resigned from parliament on 3 September 2015. The Division of Wannon is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first Federal election. The division was named after the Wannon River. For the first half-century after Federation, it regularly traded hands between the Australian Labor Party and the conservative parties. However, a 1955 redistribution removed most of the seat's Labor-friendly territory, and it has been a safe Liberal seat for most of its history since then. The seat's most notable member was Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, to date the last prime minister from a country seat. Warrnambool (or Warrnoobul) was the title of both the volcano and the clan of Aboriginal Australian people who lived there. In the local language, the prefix Warnn- designated home or hut, while the meaning of the suffix -ambool is now unknown. William Fowler Pickering, the colonial government surveyor who in 1845 was tasked with the initial planning of the township, chose to name the town Warrnambool. Woodford is a township in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. located north of Warrnambool. The school opened on the midnight of 30 April and 1 May 1854. Back then, the school was small; it was relocated to the hill further north 100 years after its opening. In late August 2001, the bottom flat was flooded after heavy rain. The school closed the day afterwards before re-opening after the water receded. Woodford Post Office opened on 1 January 1854, and closed sometime in 1975. Other buildings of interest include the church and a former art gallery. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. North Warrnambool Football Club
The North Warrnambool Eagles Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Eagles'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based near the regional city of Warrnambool, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Hampden Football Netball League, where the football squad has played since 1997. History The club was formed in 1986 with the merger of Grassmere and Bushfield clubs. The merged club was known as Northern Districts and competed in the Warrnambool District Football League until it transferred to the stronger Hampden league in 1997. Northern Districts won the 1994 premiership in the Warrnambool DFL and was runners-up in 1992. A move to the Hampden Football Netball League and a name change to North Warrnambool, the Eagles struggled for their first season, finishing last. Michael Kol was the first coach.
