Burns Beach, Western Australia
Burns Beach is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located north of Perth's central business district at the northern fringe of the City of Joondalup. Burns Beach has maintained much of its original character as a small coastal village even with its loss of isolation, and the beach is popular among hang gliding enthusiasts. History The land at Burns Beach was originally owned by the Midland Railway Company. In 1908, following a request from 50 local residents, the Wanneroo Road Board (which eventually became City of Wanneroo) successfully applied for a reserve for camping and a health resort. By the 1920s, the area was well used by locals, who knew the area as "Burns Beach" after a farmer who ran sheep in the area. For many years it was accessible only by track or boat and functioned as a small coastal village, and tourism and fishing were the main occupations. Perth Central Business District
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Swan Transit is an Australian bus company operating Transperth services under contract to the Public Transport Authority. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems. History On 21 January 1996, Swan Transit commenced operating services in the Midland area with 43 buses. Joondalup Railway Station
Joondalup railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Joondalup line, 26 kilometres from Perth station serving the regional metropolitan city of Joondalup. History Joondalup station opened on 20 December 1992 as the interim terminus of the Joondalup line. The line was extended to Currambine a year later in 1993. In 2003, the contract for extending the platforms on seven Joondalup line stations, including Joondalup station, was awarded to Lakis Constructions. The platforms on these stations had to be extended by to accommodate long six car trains, which were planned to enter service. Along with the extensions, the platform edges were upgraded to bring them into line with tactile paving standards. Work on this station was done in mid-2004. Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. Ocean Reef Senior High School
Ocean Reef Senior High School is an independent Public high school, located in Ocean Reef, north of Perth, Western Australia. Opened in 1983, the school's catchment area covered the northwestern part of the City of Joondalup and provides an education for approximately 1,300 students from Year 7 and Year 12. History The school opened in 1983 with 200 students in a single teaching block (now used as the Social Studies block) with a small group of year 8 and 9 students and only 14 staff. It was formally opened by the then Education Minister, Bob Pearce, on 24 February 1984. Over the years, the school has grown to around 10 blocks and a well equipped on-site library. The school now has a total of 92 teaching staff, 20 administration staff, 18 support staff and 1,217 students.
