Brookwood Lye
Brookwood Lye is a nature reserve in Brookwood in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. This is mainly wet grassland which has a rich variety of flora. Other habitats include alder carr An alder carr is a particular type of carr, i.e. waterlogged wooded terrain populated with alder trees. Brookwood, Surrey
Brookwood is a village in Surrey, England, about west of Woking, with a mixture of semi-rural, woodland-set and archetypal suburban residential homes. It lies on the western border of the Woking Borough, with a small part of the village in Guildford Borough. As part of the 2016 boundary review, Brookwood became part of the Heathlands ward which comprises Brookwood, Bridley, Hook Heath, Mayford, Sutton Green and Barnsbury and Wych Hill. The village is known for the 500-acre Brookwood Cemetery, also called the London Necropolis. The village also gave its name to the former Victorian Brookwood Hospital, once the leading mental institution in Surrey. Since its closure in 1994, it has been redeveloped as housing. Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) was founded in 1959 as Surrey Naturalists' Trust and it is one of forty-six wildlife trusts covering Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Alderney. SWT carries out conservation activities on a considerable area of Surrey County Council's largcountryside estateand also manages land on behalf of thMinistry of Defence estate As of 2022 the SWT manages more than of land for wildlife and employs more than 100 staff. It had an income of £5.1 million and expenditure of £5.7 million. As of April 2022 the SWT manages sixty-eight nature reserves.
