Bro Goronwy F.C.
Bro Goronwy Football Club ( cy, Clwb Pêl Droed Llansannan) is a Welsh football team based in Moelfre, Anglesey, Wales. The club play in the North Wales Coast West Football League Division One and have previously played in the Gwynedd League and Anglesey League. The club is named after one of the 18th century's most notable Welsh poets, Goronwy Owen. History The club were originally called ''Benllech & District'', playing in the Anglesey League from the 1974–75 season. They were one of founder members of the Gwynedd League in the 1983–84 season. They finished fifth in the league as well as reaching the final of the inaugural Eryri Shield cup competition. The club decided to return to the Anglesey League and renamed to CPD Bro Goronwy FC but had to enter the second division of the Anglesey League. Moelfre, Anglesey
Moelfre () is a village, a community and, until 2012, an electoral ward on the north-east coast of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. The community area covers the village and harbour, and several smaller, dispersed settlements. It includes six scheduled Iron Age hut groups and many other sites of archaeological interest. The harbour was formerly a local fishing port; a lifeboat station has been based here since 1854. Among many shipwrecks off the coast was that of the Royal Charter in 1859. Near the modernised lifeboat station is the RNLI Seawatch Centre. The coastline includes a rocky headland north of the village and a large sandy beach at Lligwy Bay, both traversed by the Anglesey Coastal Path. Anglesey
Anglesey (; cy, (Ynys) Môn ) is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. The North Wales Coast West Football League is a football league in Wales, at tiers 4 and 5 of the Welsh football league system in North Wales, founded in 2020. The league is under the control of the North Wales Coast Football Association. The league replaced the former Gwynedd League and Anglesey Leagues, and covers the North West of Wales. The Anglesey Football League was a football league in Anglesey, Wales, and was equivalent to the sixth level of the Welsh football league system in North Wales. The champions were promoted to the Gwynedd League. Goronwy Owen (poet)
Goronwy Owen (1 January 1723 – July 1769) was one of the 18th century's most notable Welsh poets. He mastered the 24 traditional bardic metres and, although forced by circumstances into exile, played an important role in the literary and antiquarian movement in Wales often described as the Welsh 18th-century Renaissance. Life Owen was born on New Year's Day, 1723, in the parish of Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf in Anglesey. During his childhood he lived at his ancestral home, "Y Dafarn Goch". He was later educated at Friars School, Bangor, and Jesus College, Oxford, although he did not remain long at the college. He was admitted to the college as a servitor on 3 June 1742 but, whilst his name remained on the college's books until March 1748 (albeit with some omissions), he only resided in the college for about one week in the Midsummer Term of 1744 and incurred a debt of 15 s 1 d which was never paid. The North Wales Coast FA Intermediate Cup is a football knockout tournament involving teams from in North Wales who play in leagues administered and associated with the North Wales Coast Football Association. Previous winners The competition was originally known as the ''North Wales Coast Amateur Cup'' ran from 1894 to 1975 with the exception of when the competition was suspended during the war years. For the 1975–76 season it was renamed the ''North Wales Coast FA Intermediate Cup'' running until the end of the 1980–81 season.
