Brisbane Roar FC Players
Brisbane Roar Football Club, an association football club based on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Queensland, and was founded in 1957 as Hollandina-Inala. They were one of two Queensland members competing in the inaugural National Soccer League in 1977 and became the first Queensland member admitted into the A-League in 2005, having spent most seasons in Queensland state leagues. The club's first team have competed in numerous nationally and internationally organised competitions, and all players who have played in 100 or more such matches, either as a member of the starting eleven or as a substitute, are listed below. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. Matthew Terence Smith (born 14 October 1982) is an Australian association football manager and former player, who is the current manager of Thai League 1 club BG Pathum United. He was born in England, he represented the Australia national team. Born in England, Smith emigrated to Australia where he started his professional soccer career with North Queensland Fury during the 2009-10 A-League season and then signed a two-year contract with Brisbane Roar at the start of the A-League 2010–11 season. Stuart McLaren (born 28 August 1975) is a Scottish/Australian football player and coach, who is currently employed at Scottish club Celtic as U18 manager. Biography Queensland Roar coach Miron Bleiberg signed McLaren on a short-term contract in early November 2005. He was signed due to Josh McCloughlan's injury, playing as a defender as he did when he was a former player-coach with the Brisbane Strikers in the NSL. He was then signed as a permanent player and regularly played in the starting eleven, occasionally captaining the Queensland Roar. Chad Gibson (born 19 June 1976) is a former professional footballer. Biography Chad Gibson is from Sydney, Australia, with parents of South African origin who migrated to Australia during Apartheid due to racial policies, which legally forbid their relationship. Massimo Murdocca
Massimo Murdocca (born 2 September 1984) is an Australian professional Association football, soccer player who plays as a Right midfielder, right or central midfielder for National Premier Leagues club Nunawading City FC. Club career Before joining Brisbane Roar, Murdocca played for South Melbourne FC, South Melbourne and Carlton SC in the now defunct National Soccer League, and for Fawkner Blues in the Victorian Premier League. Matthew Graham McKay (born 11 January 1983) is a retired Australian professional footballer who last played for Australian A-League club Brisbane Roar, and previously with the Australian national team. McKay currently holds the club's record for league appearances, 272. McKay played for Brisbane Roar since their first season in the A-League, and was their club captain up until the 2010–11 season, in which he led Brisbane to their first ever A-League championship and premiership. Following this triumphant victory McKay sought a new challenge in the first division of the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. The OFC Champions League, also known as the O-League, is the premier men's club soccer competition in Oceania. It is organised by the OFC, Oceania's football governing body. A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup
The A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup competition was an annual soccer tournament held for all A-League clubs in July and August in the lead up to the start of the A-League season. The competition featured a group stage and a knockout stage. Commentators did not give much weight to the competition as a guide for performance during the season proper, as injuries or club strategic policy ruled that many teams did not use their best players and often used experimental tactics. The Pre-Season Cup was removed from the 2009–10 A-League schedule in order to give the clubs more control over their own pre-season training.
