Bright Akhuetie
Bright Osagie Akhuetie is a Nigerian basketball player who last played for the UP Fighting Maroons of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Early life and education Akhuetie was born on September 12, 1996, in Kaduna, Nigeria, to Christopher and Roseline Akhuetie. He has three brothers and a sister. Bright was initially into football like his father and would play the sport with neighbors in competitions they would organize themselves. As a football player, Akhuetie started out as a striker but later transitioned into a defender. In Nigeria he attended Comprehensive College. When he moved to the Philippines, Akhuetie entered the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA but later moved to the University of the Philippines Diliman where he decided to pursue a major degree in physical education. The UP Fighting Maroons are the collegiate varsity teams of the University of the Philippines, primarily off University of the Philippines Diliman, Diliman, which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country. Frederick "Eric" Altamirano (born August 8, 1966 in Davao City) is a former Filipino basketball player and he formerly the assistant coach of the Alaska Aces. Nigeria Men's National Basketball Team
The Nigeria national basketball team represents Nigeria in men's international basketball and it is overseen by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). In March 2021, the global governing body FIBA ranked Nigeria as Africa's top men's basketball nation. After the 2016 Olympic Men's Basketball Tournament in Rio, Nigeria was ranked 16th in the FIBA World Rankings, making them the top climber in FIBA rankings from 2015. Sidney Nelson Onwubere (born August 1, 1993) is a Filipino-Nigerian basketball player for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is a former star player for the EAC Generals. He was selected by the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the 2017 PBA draft, but was traded to the TNT KaTropa the same day. The Philippines was represented at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Finals two times, debuting in 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Tour, 2014. So far the teams that represented the country are based in Metro Manila; Manila West and Manila North. Chooks-to-Go Basketball Team
The Philippines men's national basketball team has competed in FIBA competitions for basketball clubs such as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. In such cases the national team competed, they played under a club name, usually after a sponsor. At the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in particular, privately sponsored national teams has competed in the tournament. In other cases the Philippines competed in the tournament, the country was represented by teams from the now defunct Philippine Basketball League and Metropolitan Basketball Association. No Philippine Basketball Association team has competed in the tournament until the 2018 edition when Meralco Bolts entered the continental club tournament.
