Belgium In The Eurovision Song Contest 1973
Belgium was represented by Nicole and Hugo, with the song "Baby, Baby", at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Luxembourg City on 7 April. "Baby, Baby" was the winner of the Belgian national final for the contest, held at the Amerikaans Theater in Brussels on 25 February. Nicole and Hugo had won the 1971 Belgian preselection with the song "Goeiemorgen, morgen", but days before the contest Nicole had fallen ill and was unable to travel to host city Dublin, so Jacques Raymond and Lily Castel had been drafted in as last-minute replacements. Before Eurovision Liedje voor Luxemburg The final took place on 25 February 1973, held in the Amerikaans Theater in Brussels and hosted by Jan Theys, with five acts performing two songs apiece. Nicole And Hugo
Nicole and Hugo were a Belgian singing duo of Nicole Josy (born Nicole Van Pamel; 21 October 1946, Wemmel – 4 November 2022) and Hugo Sigal (born 10 November 1947 as Hugo Verbraeken, Leopoldstad/Léopoldville, now Kinshasa). Beginnings The duo met in 1970 and became romantically involved and formed a singing duet. On 1 December 1971, Nicole and Hugo got married at Wemmel. The Eurovision Song Contest 1968 was the 13th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in London, United Kingdom, following the country's first victory at the with the song " Puppet on a String" by Sandie Shaw. Despite having won for the first time the year before, it was actually the third time that the United Kingdom had hosted the competition, having previously done so in and , both of which also took place in London. Claude Lombard
Claude Lombard (25 February 1945 – 20 September 2021) was a Belgian singer, best known internationally for her participation in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Lombard studied at INSAS, a college of film, theatre and television studies in Brussels. She learned to play piano and guitar, and began composing music. Eurovision Song Contest In 1968, Lombard's song " Quand tu reviendras" ("When You Come Back") was chosen by jury voting from ten songs as the Belgian representative in the 13th Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 6 April in London. "Quand tu reviendras" finished in joint seventh place (with Monaco and Yugoslavia) of 17 entries. Lombard returned to Eurovision in 1973, albeit as a backing singer, for that year's Belgian entry " Baby, Baby" performed by Nicole & Hugo. Ann Christy (born Christianne Leenaerts, 22 September 1945 in Antwerp – 7 August 1984 in Meise) was a Belgian singer who enjoyed success in her native country and is best known internationally for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1975. Early career Christy began a singing career with The Adams Orchestra, whose drummer, Marc Hoyois, she later married. Her first solo recordings met with little success. During this period she toured in Belgium and France with Salvatore Adamo. In 1968 she won the ''Knokke Cup'' singing contest. Eurovision Song Contest Christy's first attempt to represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest came in 1970 with the song "Le temps, le vent" ("Time, Wind"), which failed to progress past the semi-final stage.
