Congratulations (Eurovision)
''Congratulations: 50 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest'' was a television programme organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to commemorate the Eurovision Song Contest's fiftieth anniversary and to determine the contest's most popular entrant of its fifty years. Hosted by Katrina Leskanich and Renārs Kaupers, the event took place at Forum Copenhagen, Forum, in Copenhagen on 22 October 2005. The host was Danish broadcaster DR (broadcaster), DR. Katrina Leskanich
Katrina Elizabeth Leskanich ( ; born April 10, 1960) is an American musician and the former lead singer of the British pop rock band Katrina and the Waves. Their song "Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song), Walking on Sunshine" was an international hit in 1985. In 1997, the band won the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, Eurovision Song Contest for the United Kingdom with the song "Love Shine a Light". Both songs were written by Leskanich's long-term bandmate Kimberley Rew. Early life Leskanich was born in Topeka, Kansas. Her father was a Vietnam Veteran who became a colonel in the United States Air Force. Katrina and her five siblings (four sisters and one brother) moved frequently as children. The family arrived in the United Kingdom in 1976. She graduated from RAF Lakenheath high school in 1978. Mocedades
Mocedades () is a Spanish singing group from the Basque Country, who represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with the hit song "Eres tú". Since June 2014, ''Mocedades'' has been the name of two bands: one with Izaskun Uranga as its leader and the other with Javier Garay. A third group, El Consorcio, is composed of former Mocedades members who left the group but have continued a career together outside the Mocedades brand. Group formation In 1967, in the Basque city of Bilbao, three young sisters, Amaya, Izaskun and Estíbaliz Uranga, formed a vocal trio named ''Las Hermanas Uranga'' (''The Uranga Sisters''). "What's Another Year" is a song recorded by Irish singer-songwriter Johnny Logan with music composed and lyrics written by Shay Healy. It in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 held in The Hague, resulting in his first win at the contest, as well as the country's second victory. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in May 1980. Background Conception "What's Another Year" was written by Shay Healy. Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (born 13 May 1954), also known professionally as Johnny Logan, is an Australian-born Irish singer, songwriter and musician. He is known for being the only person to have won the Eurovision Song Contest three times, twice as a lead singer and a third time as a song writer. Prāta Vētra, known internationally as Brainstorm, is a Latvian pop/rock band. The band became popular internationally in 2000 when they finished third in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 with the song "My Star (Brainstorm song), My Star". History BrainStorm formation and first years (1989–1996) The band was formed in the summer of 1989 in Jelgava, Latvian SSR by four former classmates – Renārs Kaupers, Jānis Jubalts, Gundars Mauševics and Kaspars Roga. Soon after, their classmate Māris Mihelsons also joined the band. It consisted of five 14-year-old guys influenced by Depeche Mode, U2 and R.E.M. Katrina and the Waves were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Cambridge in 1981, widely known for their 1985 hit "Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song), Walking on Sunshine".
