''Because I Got High'' is the second studio album by Mississippi-based rapper Afroman. The record was released on T-Bones Records in 2000. Although a Canada-exclusive release, it was otherwise sold and distributed via live performances. The title track of the record stands as Afroman's most popular and best-selling song. ''Because I Got High'' went to Number One on the New Zealand charts, where it stayed for four weeks, in 2000. Joseph Edgar Foreman (born July 28, 1974), better known by his stage name Afroman, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, comedian and musician. He is best known for his songs "Because I Got High", released in 2000, and "Crazy Rap", which was released in 2001 and both were featured on his album ''The Good Times''. Afroman was nominated for a Grammy award in 2002. Early life Born in Los Angeles, Afroman initially grew up in South-Central Los Angeles. He later lived in Palmdale in the High Desert of Southern California, and then Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Career Afroman's musical career began in the eighth grade, when he began recording homemade songs and selling them to his classmates. "The first tape I made was about my eighth-grade teacher", he once recalled. "She got me kicked out of school for sagging my pants, which was a big deal back then. T-Bones Records is a record label founded by producer Tim Ramenofsky (aka " Headfridge"). The label was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi when Ramenofsky was a member of the metal fusion band Loppybogymi. In 2000, Ramenofsky discovered rapper Afroman and produced the album, "Because I Got High". The record was originally released on T-Bones Records. The title track was soon posted on file-sharing service Napster and made it to ''The Howard Stern Show''. This song was the theme song of the film ''Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'' and was later featured in the films '' Disturbia'' and ''The Perfect Score''. "Because I Got High" was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002.
