Bård Jørgen Elden
Bård Jørgen Elden (born 17 June 1968) is a former Norway, Norwegian Nordic combined skier who competed from 1987 to 1997. At the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, he won a gold medal in the 3 x 10 km team event. He is now the national team coach for Austria and recently won the team competition in the World Championships in Oslo, Holmenkollen 2011. Elden's only individual career victory occurred in Austria in 1989. Elden has also been national team coach and chief executive for the United States, American Nordic combined national team. The brother of former Nordic combined and cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier Trond Einar Elden, he represented Namdalseid I.L. during his career. Nordic combined is a winter sport in which athletes compete in cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing and ski jumping. The Nordic combined at the Winter Olympics has been held since the first ever 1924 Winter Olympics, Winter Olympics in 1924, while the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup has been held since 1983. Many Nordic combined competitions use the Gundersen method, where placement in the ski jumping segment results in time (dis)advantages added to the contestant's total in the cross-country skiing segment (e.g. the ski jumping winner starts the cross-country skiing race at 00:00:00 while the one with the lowest jumping score starts with the longest time penalty). FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a biennial nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The World Championships was started in 1925 for men and opened for women's participation in 1954. World Championship events include nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country and ski jumping). From 1924 to 1939, the World Championships were held every year, including the Winter Olympics. After World War II, the World Championships were held every four years from 1950 to 1982. 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 took place 17–26 February 1989 in Lahti, Finland, for a record fifth time (1926, 1938, 1958, 1978). The women's 5 km was not held after being reintroduced in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1987, previous championships. These championships featured separate races of men's 15 km and women's 10 km both in the classical technique and in the freestyle technique. Additionally, the women's 15 km event debuted and the women's 20 km event was lengthened to 30 km. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. Trond Einar Elden
Trond Einar Elden (born 21 February 1970) is a Norwegian former Nordic combined skier who represented Namdalseid I.L. in Trondheim. He competed at three Winter Olympics. At the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, he became the youngest world champion ever, fifteen days after his nineteenth birthday. At Falun in 1993, he won a bronze medal in the 15 km individual event. Additionally, Elden won two medals in the 3 × 10 km team event at the Nordic skiing world championships with a gold in 1989 and a silver in 1993. Elden also won the Nordic combined event twice at the Holmenkollen ski festival (1989, 1991). In 1991, Elden received the Holmenkollen medal (which he shared with Vegard Ulvang, Ernst Vettori, and Jens Weißflog).
