Bäl is a populated area, a socken (not to be confused with Parishes of the Church of Sweden, parish), on the Swedish island of Gotland. It comprises the same area as the Registration districts in Sweden, administrative Bäl District, established on 1January 2016. Geography Bäl is the name of the larger area, Bäl socken as well as the Bäl district, surrounding the small village of Gute where the Middle Ages, medieval Bäl Church, is located. Gute is sometimes referred to as ''Bäl'', ''Bäl kyrkby'' or ''Bäls kyrkby Gute''. Bäl Church
Bäl Church ( sv, Bäl kyrka) is a medieval church in Gute, Gotland, Gute, Bäl, on the Swedish island of Gotland. It was built during the first half of the 13th century and contains sculptural decoration in both Romanesque and Gothic styles. The interior is decorated by medieval wall paintings. It belongs to the parish Väskinde, in the Diocese of Visby. History and architecture The current church was built during the first half of the 13th century and replaced an earlier stone church on the same site, fragments of which still remain in the wall between the choir (architecture), choir and nave (architecture), nave. Of the presently visible church, the choir is the oldest part, with the nave and tower being built successively. Paintings were added in the 13th century through 15th centuries. List Of Gotland Related Asteroids
Several asteroids or minor planets in the asteroid belt with Gotland-related names have been discovered and named by Swedish astronomer Claes-Ingvar Lagerkvist. Others have been named during courses of the Uppsala-ESO Survey of Asteroids and Comets at the European Southern Observatory and have not been credited to a single discoverer, but rather collective work. , 175,658 asteroids have been numbered and almost 14,300 of those have been named. 205 have been named after places, persons or fictional figures in Sweden. The asteroid belt is a torus-shaped region in the Solar System, located roughly between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars. It contains a great many solid, irregularly shaped bodies, of many sizes, but much smaller than planets, called asteroids or minor planets.
