Bystrá, Brezno District
Bystrá ( hu, Sebesér) is a village and municipality in Brezno District, in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. Attractions The gothic Roman Catholic church of St, Florian is located in the center of the village. During winter Bystra is mainly popular for ice-skating and winter walks. Until the 2010s Bystra also had its own ski slope. During winter the competition for the tastiest sausage is held in Bystra. During summer the main touristic attractions are hiking and visits to the caves. Banská Bystrica Region
The Banská Bystrica Region ( sk, Banskobystrický kraj, ; hu, Besztercebányai kerület, ) is one of the eight regions of Slovakia. It is the largest region by area, and has a lower population density than any other region. The Banská Bystrica region was established in 1923; its borders were last adjusted in 1996. Banská Bystrica consists of 514 municipalities, 24 of which have town status. Its administrative center is the eponymous town of Banská Bystrica, which is also the region's largest town. Other important towns are Zvolen and Lučenec. Geography It is located in the central part of Slovakia and has an area of 9,455 km2. The region is prevailingly mountainous, with several ranges within the area. The highest of them are the Low Tatras in the north, where the highest point, Ďumbier, is located. Slovak Car Registration Plates
Vehicles registered in Slovakia are generally assigned to one of the districts ('' okres'') and since 1997, the licence plate coding ( sk, EČV, evidenčné číslo vozidla) generally consists of seven characters and takes the form XX-NNNLL, where XX is a two letter code corresponding to the district, NNN is three digit number and LL are two letters (assigned alphabetically). František Švantner
František Švantner (January 29, 1912 in Bystrá, present day Slovakia - October 13, 1950 in Prague, present-day Czech Republic) was a Slovak prose writer. Biography He was born in Bystrá in a family of a manual worker. He studied in his birthplace, later in Podbrezová and Banská Bystrica. After finishing his studies, he worked as a teacher in different places (Mýto pod Ďumbierom, Podbrezová, Nová Baňa, Hronský Beňadik), until he became a principal of school in Hronov for a short time. He also worked for a local organization of Matica slovenská and became a member of Umelecká beseda slovenská. He died of a brain tumor in Prague. Works Writing career He started writing during his studies in Banská Bystrica, where he published his short story in the periodical ''Svojeť''.
