Buurmadow
Osman Aw Mohamud ( so, Cismaan Aw Maxamuud), more commonly known as Buurmadow is a well known clan elder from Somaliland. Biography Mohamud was born in 1965 in El Afweyn, in the Sanaag region of Somaliland to a family of nomads, with his father being a livestock trader. He belongs to the Musa Abokor sub-division of the Habr Je'lo Isaaq. He finished secondary school in 1979 and joined the Somali Salvation Democratic Front, a rebel group with the goal of overthrowing Siad Barre's regime shortly after. In 1984 he subsequently joined the Somali National Movement, another rebel group with a similar goal. After the conclusion of the war and throughout the 1990s Mohamud was a business man. In 2000, he was crowned a ''boqor'', or king in Somali. Mohamud is known for his efforts at mediating regional conflicts, particularly among clans in Somaliland. Habr Je'lo
The Habr Je'lo ( so, Habar Jeclo, ar, هبر جعلو , Full Name: ''Mūsa ibn ash-Shaykh Isḥāq ibn Aḥmad,'' historically known as the Habr Toljaala ( so, Habar Toljeclo) is a major sub-tribe of the wider Isaaq family. Its members form part of the Habr Habushed ( so, Habar Xabuusheed) confederation along with the Ibran, Sanbuur and Tolje’lo. The Habr Je'lo played a prominent role in the livestock and frankincense trade during the pre-colonial period. The Habr Je'lo also partook in a major organised front to oppose British rule in the late 19th and early 20th centuries under the leadership of Haji Sudi and other subsequent anti-colonial leaders hailing from the same tribe. El Afweyn
El Afweyn ( so, Ceelafweyn, ) is a town in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. El Afweyn is a major historical town in western Sanaag region and sits at the major road connecting the cities of Burao and Erigavo. By road, the town is approximately 283 km east of Burao and 88 km southwest of Erigavo. The town is also the administrative seat of the El Afweyn District. History Isaaq genocide During the Isaaq genocide El Afweyn and its surrounding territory saw over 300 persons be killed in October 1988 in revenge for the death of an army officer who was killed by a landmine laid by the rebel Somali National Movement (or the SNM for short).
