Burdhubo District
Burdhubo District, also spelled Buurdhuubo, is a district in the southwestern Gedo region of Somalia. Its capital is Burdhubo. The terrorist group Al-Shabaab has operated in the district in recent years. On 4 November 2011, some of its members kidnapped ten district clan elders. On 6 January 2012, Voice of America reported that the Somali media had stated that government troops, backed by Kenyan forces, were advancing into the area, while "al-Shabab" had withdrawn from the district. Gedo
Gedo ( so, Gedo, Maay: ''Gethy'', ar, جيذو, it, Ghedo or ''Ghedu'') is an administrative region ('' gobol'') in Jubaland, southern Somalia. Its regional capital is Garbahaarreey. It was created in 1974 and is bordered by the Ogaden in Ethiopia, the North Eastern Province in Kenya, and the Somali regions of Bakool, Bay, Jubbada Dhexe (Middle Juba), and Jubbada Hoose (Lower Juba) further down east. The southern parts of Gedo, west of the Jubba River, used to be part of the old British Trans-Juba region during half of the seventy years of colonial era in Africa from 1890 to 1960. The British and Italians fought twice over this area. The first democratically elected governor of the administrative region was Hussein Farey, who entered office in 2008. Burdhubo
Burdhubo ( so, Buurdhuubo) is a town in the southern Gedo region of Somalia. It is the center of the Burdhubo District. Overview Burdhubo sits on the Jubba River in the Jubba Valley, between the cities of Bardera and Luuq. Garbahaarreey, the Gedo region's capital, is situated just away from Burdhubo. The town's inhabitants cultivate crops on farms along the banks of the river. Other residents lead a pastoral lifestyle, herding camels, cattle, goats and sheep. Since the early 1990s, Burdhubo has also seen new business activities and population growth. In March 2014, Somali Armed Forces assisted by an Ethiopian battalion with AMISOM captured the town from Al-Shabaab. The offensive was part of an intensified military operation by the allied forces to remove the insurgent group from the remaining areas in southern Somalia under its control. The Global Terrorism Database (GTD) is a database of terrorist incidents from 1970 onward. As of May 2021, the list extended through 2019 recording over 200,000 incidents, although data from 1993 is excluded.
