Buhisan Dam
Buhisan Dam is a dam located in Buhisan, Cebu City, Philippines. It is one of the main source of water for Cebu City and Metro Cebu. Part of Central Cebu Protected Landscape, Buhisan Dam is situated in the mountains of Barangay Buhisan behind Labangon, Cebu. Built in 1911-1912 and maintained by the Metro Cebu Water District, it is being developed into an eco-tourism location. It supplies five percent of Metropolitan Cebu Water District's (MCWD) current water capacity. History Because of the lack of potable water in Cebu, a cholera outbreak began to spread in the early 1900s which killed 559 people in the city which then had a population of 55,000, or about 1% of its population. A destructive fire in 1906 which destroyed millions worth of properties also proved the need of enough water supply for Cebu. Central Cebu Protected Landscape
The Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL) is a protected area located in the mountains and drainage basins of central Cebu in the Philippines. The CCPL covers what used to be known as the Central Cebu National Park, Buhisan Dam, Mananga Watershed Forest Reserve, Kotkot-Lusuran Watershed Forest Reserve, and the Sudlon National Park. The protected area spans of adjoining forestlands and watersheds located in the middle of the province. It covers parts of the central Cebu cities of Cebu City, Toledo, Talisay, and Danao, and the municipalities of Balamban, Minglanilla, Consolacion, Liloan and Compostela. The CCPL houses many of Cebu's endemic and indigenous species. Cholera
Cholera is an infection of the small intestine by some strains of the bacterium ''Vibrio cholerae''. Symptoms may range from none, to mild, to severe. The classic symptom is large amounts of watery diarrhea that lasts a few days. Vomiting and muscle cramps may also occur. Diarrhea can be so severe that it leads within hours to severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. This may result in sunken eyes, cold skin, decreased skin elasticity, and wrinkling of the hands and feet. Dehydration can cause the skin to turn bluish. Symptoms start two hours to five days after exposure. Cholera is caused by a number of types of ''Vibrio cholerae'', with some types producing more severe disease than others. William Cameron Forbes (May 21, 1870 – December 24, 1959) was an American investment banker and diplomat. He served as Governor-General of the Philippines, governor-general of the Philippines from 1909 to 1913 and ambassador of the United States to Japan from 1930 to 1932. Halsema Highway (also known as the , or Mountain Trail) is a national secondary highway in the Philippines. Situated within the Cordillera Central range in northern Luzon, it stretches from the city limit of Baguio to the municipality of Bontoc. Its highest point is at above sea level in the municipality of Atok. It was officially recognized as the highest altitude highway in the Philippines until 2019 when the high point Kiangan–Tinoc–Buguias Road in Tinoc, Ifugao was recognized as the new holder of the distinction. Skinks are lizards belonging to the family Scincidae, a family in the infraorder Scincomorpha. With more than 1,500 described species across 100 different taxonomic genera, the family Scincidae is one of the most diverse families of lizards. Talisay, officially the City of Talisay ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Talisay; fil, Lungsod ng Talisay), is a 3rd class component city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 263,048 people. The name of Talisay is taken from the talisay tree which is abundant in the city. History Talisay was founded in 1648 as an estate owned by the Augustinians. In 1849 it was converted into a municipality. During both the American colonial period and World War II, Talisay served as a haven of colonial military forces.
