Bryan Harvey
Bryan Stanley Harvey (born June 2, 1963) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from to for the California Angels of the American League and the Florida Marlins of the National League. Career Harvey attended Bandys High School in Catawba, North Carolina, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). Harvey was elected to the All-Star team for the American League in and for the National League in . He led the American League in saves in 1991 with 46. That year, Harvey also became the first pitcher to record 40 saves and 100 strikeouts in one season. He finished second in the 1988 American League Rookie of the Year balloting and was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year by ''The Sporting News''. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the National League (NL), is the older of two leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, and the world's oldest extant professional team sports league. The Pittsburgh Pirates are an American professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh. Bryan Kristopher Harvey (born January 5, 1984 in Catawba, North Carolina) is an American professional baseball pitcher. He is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Bryan Harvey and the brother of major league pitcher Hunter Harvey. Amateur career Prior to playing professionally, Harvey attended Bandys High School. He was drafted out of high school by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 2002 amateur draft, but he did not sign. He attended Clemson University. In his first year with Clemson, 2003, Harvey hit .276 in 29 at-bats. The next year, he batted .335 with eight home runs and 41 RBI in 54 games.
