Broadford Track
Broadford Track is the popular name of Broadford State Motorcycle Sports Complex in Victoria, Australia. It is located along Hume Freeway, approximately from Melbourne near the town of Broadford. Opened in 1975, Broadford Road Circuit (there are 8 tracks in this 96-hectare complex) is long and wide within Reg Hunt Park. It is primarily used for motorcycle racing, but is also used for car testing, although car racing is restricted to motorcycle-engined vehicles due to planning restrictions and the lack of a track circuit licence. It is located north of Melbourne, on the Strath Creek Rd, Broadford (Just off Hume Freeway). The State Motorcycle Complex also has a Motorcycle speedway track. The track has hosted the Victorian Individual Speedway Championship on three occasions: 2002/03 won by Travis McGowan, 2005/06 won by Cameron Woodward and 2009/10 won by Ty Proctor. Hume Freeway
Hume Highway, inclusive of the sections now known as Hume Freeway and Hume Motorway, is one of Australia's major inter-city national highways, running for between Melbourne in the southwest and Sydney in the northeast. Upgrading of the route from Sydney's outskirts to Melbourne's outskirts to dual carriageway was completed on 7 August 2013. Broadford is a small town in central Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 census, Broadford had a population of 4,076. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. The Victorian Individual Speedway Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held annually in Australia's southernmost mainland state of Victoria to determine the State champion. The event is organised by the Motorcycling Victoria and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Mildura's Phil Crump, father of three time World Champion Jason Crump, holds the record for the most wins having won 13 Victorian Championships between 1972 and 1988. Travis McGowan
Travis McGowan (born 13 January 1981 in Mildura, Victoria) is an Australian speedway rider. Career McGowan started racing motorbikes the age of ten, and in 1993 he won the Australian Under-16 Championship at Darwin's Northline Speedway. Success continued as he won the Australian Under-21 Speedway Championship in 1998, 2000 and 2002, as well as taking five consecutive victories in the Victorian State Championship between 2001 and 2005. By winning the Victorian title five times in a row, McGowan broke the record of four straight wins previously held by Mildura speedway legends Phil Crump (1972-1975, 1979-1982) and Leigh Adams (1989-1992). In 1999 McGowan was offered a team spot for the King's Lynn Stars in the British Elite League. He remained in the team for the following season but returned to Australia in 2001.
