British Columbia Hussars
The British Columbia Hussars was a light cavalry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia (now the Canadian Army). In 1939, the regiment was converted from light armour to artillery. Bessborough Armoury
Bessborough Armoury is a Canadian Forces armoury located at 2025 West 11th Avenue in Vancouver, British Columbia. History Construction of the armoury began in September 1932 and was completed in the following spring. Architecture The architect was Richard T. Perry, who was also the Commanding Officer of the 15th Brigade. The outside of the building was done in an Art Deco style. Once the building was completed it initially provided accommodations for 15th Brigade and the British Columbia Hussars. The building was officially opened on 27 March 1934 by the Earl of Bessborough, the Governor-General of Canada. The building is listed on the Vancouver Inventory of heritage buildings as a "B" Category and is classed as a "Registered" building by the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office. Hussar Regiments Of Canada
A hussar ( , ; hu, huszár, pl, husarz, sh, husar / ) was a member of a class of light cavalry, originating in Central Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. The title and distinctive dress of these horsemen were subsequently widely adopted by light cavalry regiments in European armies in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. By the 19th century, hussars wore jackets decorated with braid and shako or busby hats and they developed a romanticized image of being dashing and adventurous. A small number of modern armies retain the designation of hussars for some armored (tank) units. As well, some modern armies have ceremonial mounted units which wear historical hussar uniforms on parades or to provide a VIP escort to national leaders. Festubert is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. During the First World War, the Second Battle of Ypres was fought from for control of the tactically important high ground to the east and south of the Flemish town of Ypres in western Belgium. 4th Queen's Own Hussars
The 4th Queen's Own Hussars was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1685. It saw service for three centuries, including the First World War and the Second World War. It amalgamated with the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, to form the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars in 1958. History Formation and early history The regiment was first raised by the Hon. John Berkeley as The Princess Anne of Denmark's Regiment of Dragoons in 1685, as part of the response to the Monmouth Rebellion by the regimenting of various independent troops, and ranked as the 4th Dragoons. The regiment transferred its allegiance to King William III in February 1689 and fought the depleted forces of James II in Scotland later that year. Lumby, British Columbia
Lumby is a small community of 1,731 people, located near the edge of the Monashee Mountains. It is mainly a logging, manufacturing and agriculture community. The village is home to a network of trails along the creek beds, known collectively as the Salmon Trail. Hang gliding and paragliding are very popular in Lumby. The village has hosted many national and international events, usually taking place at nearby Cooper Mountain.
