British Academy Games Award For Game Design
The British Academy Video Games Award for Game Design is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is given in honor of "the best game design that captivates and engages the player", including recognition of elements such as game mechanics, use of controls, level and world structure, and pacing. The award was first given at the 8th British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony, held in 2012, with the Valve title ''Portal 2'' winning the award. Since its inception, the award has been given to eleven games. As developers, Ubisoft Montreal have received three nominations. The most nominated publishers are Sony Interactive Entertainment with eleven, followed by Ubisoft with four, and Annapurna Interactive and Bethesda Softworks with three. Gearbox Software is an American video game development company based in Frisco, Texas. It was established as a limited liability company in February 1999 by five developers formerly of Rebel Boat Rocker. ''Journey'' is an indie adventure game developed by Thatgamecompany, published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and directed by Jenova Chen. It was released for the PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network in March 2012 and ported to PlayStation 4 in July 2015. It was later ported to Microsoft Windows in June 2019 and iOS in August 2019.
