Brenda Corrie-Kuehn
Brenda Corrie-Kuehn is an American amateur golfer. College career Corrie-Kuehn was an All-American for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Amateur career Corrie-Kuehn has played on two United States Curtis Cup teams, in 16 U.S. Women's Amateurs, and in nine U.S. Women's Opens. In 2001, she gained headlines for competing while 8 months pregnant, including experiencing a contraction during play. The Sunday following this U.S. Women's Open, Corrie-Kuehn gave birth. She lost in the finals of the 1995 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. She played on the U.S. team in two Espirito Santo Trophys, finishing runner up in 1996 and winning in 1998. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Wake Forest University, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Wake Forest has won a total of nine national championships in five different sports; five of these championships have come since 2002. Wake Forest is sometimes referred to as being a part of "Tobacco Road" or "The Big Four", terms that refer to the four North Carolina schools that compete heatedly against each other within the ACC; these include Duke University, North Carolina, and North Carolina State, as well as Wake Forest. Curtis Cup
The Curtis Cup is the best known team trophy for women amateur golfers, awarded in the biennial Curtis Cup Match. It is co-organised by the United States Golf Association and The R&A and is contested by teams representing the United States and "Great Britain and Ireland". The same two teams originally contested the Ryder Cup, but unlike that competition, the Curtis Cup has not widened the Great Britain and Ireland team to include all Europeans (nor has the analogous event for amateur men, the Walker Cup). Many women who have gone on to become stars of women's professional golf have played in the Curtis Cup. Espirito Santo Trophy
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women's Amateur Team Championships) is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. The inaugural event was held in 1964. It was instituted by the French Golf Federation in an agreement with the United States Golf Association. It was planned by Lally Segard, at the time known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur, from France and Mrs. Henri Prunaret from America. Segard also asked her friends Ricardo and Silvia Espirito Santo, from Portugal, to donate a trophy for the event, which they did. They had originally bought the golden cup, which had belonged to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, for an international Portuguese event that was not played anymore. The championship was held under the chairmanship of Segard at Golf de Saint Germain outside Paris, France. 1996 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1996 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 7–10 November at St. Elena Golf Club in Manila, Philippines. It was the 17th women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a stroke play team event, due to heavy rain, shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes. There were 34 team entries, each with three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The South Korea team won the Trophy for their first title, beating team Italy by two strokes. Italy earned the silver medal while the defending champions United States took the bronze on third place another four strokes back. The individual title went to Silvia Cavalleri, Italy, whose score of one-over-par, 217, was one stroke ahead of Janice Moodie, Great Britain & Ireland. The 1998 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 12–15 November at Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago, Chile. It was the 18th women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event. There were 33 team entries, each with three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States team won the Trophy for their 13th title, beating team Italy and team Germany by 21 strokes, the widest margin of victory in the history of the championship. Italy and Germany shared the silver medal on second place. The individual title went to Jenny Chuasiriporn, United States, whose score of 12-under-par, 276, was seven strokes ahead of her teammate Kellee Booth.
