''Brachiosuchus'' is an extinct genus of dyrosaurid crocodyliform known from the Late Cretaceous Kababish Formation of Sudan. It contains a single species, ''Brachiosuchus kababishensis.'' Discovery and Naming The fossils of ''Brachiosuchus'' were first discovered in 2012 in the Kababish Formation near Jebel Abyad, northern Sudan, which had previously yielded no fossils of macrovertebrates. Crocodyliformes is a clade of crurotarsan archosaurs, the group often traditionally referred to as "crocodilians". They are the first members of Crocodylomorpha to possess many of the features that define later relatives. They are the only pseudosuchians to survive the K-Pg extinction event. In 1988, Michael J. Kababish Formation
The Kababish () are a nomadic tribe of the northern Kordofan region of Sudan. The Kababish comprise about 19 different groups, which are all led by a single ''nazir'' or chief. Their main occupation is as camel herders, which gives them a high standing in Arabic society as camels are highly prized and valued. Background The main religion of the Kababish is Islam, adhering to the Sunni denomination. They trace descent from Arabian forefathers, and speak a form of Sudanese Arabic. The Plesiosauria (; Greek: πλησίος, ''plesios'', meaning "near to" and ''sauros'', meaning "lizard") or plesiosaurs are an order or clade of extinct Mesozoic marine reptiles, belonging to the Sauropterygia.
