Boston Creek is an unincorporated community in the Canada, Canadian province of Ontario, located within the Timiskaming, Unorganized, West Part, Ontario, Unorganized West Part division of Timiskaming District, Ontario, Timiskaming District. Willet G. Miller Medal, Willet Miller discovered gold in 1900 and claims were staked in 1906. The Benny Hollinger, Barry-Hollinger Mine operated until 1946, producing 77,000 ounces of gold. Iron deposits were discovered in 1904 by the Temiskaming and Hudson Bay Company. Timiskaming is a district and census division in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. The district was created in 1912 from parts of Algoma, Nipissing, and Sudbury districts. In 1921, Cochrane District was created from parts of this district and parts of Thunder Bay District. The division had a population of 32,251 in the Canada 2016 Census. Willet G
The willet (''Tringa semipalmata'') is a large shorebird in the family Scolopacidae. It is a relatively large and robust sandpiper, and is the largest of the species called "shanks" in the genus ''Tringa''. Its closest relative is the lesser yellowlegs, a much smaller bird with a very different appearance apart from the fine, clear, and dense pattern of the neck, which both species show in breeding plumage. It breeds in North America and the West Indies and winters in southern North America, Central America, the West Indies and South America. Taxonomy The willet was formally described in 1789 by the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in his revised and expanded edition of Carl Linnaeus's '' Systema Naturae''. Benny Hollinger
Benjamin Hollinger (1885–1919) was a Canadian barber turned prospector from Haileybury, Ontario, now considered one of the Founding Fathers of Timmins, Ontario, Canada. He was born April 10, 1885 in Point Alexander, Ontario, the youngest son of schoolteacher John Hollinger and Sarah Sutherland. With his friend, a professional prospector, Alex Gillies– for whom Gillies Lake is named –Hollinger travelled to the Porcupine region, in the wake of the Wilson expedition which had recently discovered the future Dome Mine site. On October 9, 1909, Hollinger discovered the gold-bearing quartz dike that later became known as Hollinger Mines. Hollinger and Gillies staked three claims each, and one for their former partner, Bernard "Barney" P. McEnaney, who had been unable to join them due to severe sciatica. Ontario Northland Railway
The Ontario Northland Railway is a Canadian railway operated by the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, a provincial Crown agency of the government of Ontario. Originally built to develop the Lake Timiskaming and Lake Nipissing areas, the railway soon became a major factor in the economic growth of the province. After decades of difficult construction through the Canadian Shield, workers reached James Bay in 1932. While blasting the route through the shield, geologists discovered deposits of valuable minerals such as gold, silver, copper and nickel. The railway also made it possible to exploit the timber resources of Northern Ontario. Tarzwell, Ontario
Tarzwell is an unincorporated community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within the Unorganized, West Part division of Timiskaming District. Tarzwell was founded by the late James Tarzwell of Erin Township, ON. James Tarzwell initially requested the name of 'Round Lake' for the community but he was informed by the Province of Ontario that the name Round Lake was already in use. Thus the name 'Tarzwell' was selected. The community is occasionally referred to as "Sheastown" or "Sheasville". On November 16, the community gathers to celebrate the founder.
