Bornova (Ä°zmir Metro)
Bornova is a station on the currently operating line of the İzmir Metro. It is located near the former Bornova railway station between Ankara and University Avenues. Transfer to city buses are available at an ESHOT Elektrik Su Havagazı Otobüs Troleybüs ( en, Electricity, Water, Coal Gas, Bus, Trolleybus) or ESHOT is a bus service operating in the İzmir. İzmir Metro ( tr, İzmir Metrosu) is a metro system in İzmir, Turkey that is in the process of being extended with new stations being put in service. The current system, consisting of one line, starts from Fahrettin Altay station Göztepe in the southern portion of the metropolitan area and runs towards northeast to end at Evka-3 in Bornova. İzmir's metro line is long, and serves 17 stations as of 26 July 2014. Overview By 1990, it was thought that the existing public transport system in Izmir could no longer support the growing population. A plan was thought of to build a rapid transit network by rail to cope with this. A contract was signed in 1993, and the handover was in 1994. Bornova is a metropolitan district of İzmir in İzmir Province in Turkey. It is the third largest district in İzmir's Greater Metropolitan Area of and is almost fully urbanized at the rate of 98.6 percent, with corresponding high levels of development in terms of industry and services. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. ESHOT

Bornova Branch
The Bornova Railway Branch was a 5.9 km long railway line, from Halkapınar to Bornova, Turkey, that branched from the SCP's main line at Halkapınar. The line was completed by the Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements in 1866. TCDD absorbed the SCP on June 1, 1934 and took over ownership of the line. Usage decreased in the 1970s and the line was abandoned in the early 1990s. This line is now a part of the Izmir Metro. Evka 3 is the eastern terminus of the M1 (İzmir Metro), F. Altay—Evka 3 Line of the İzmir Metro. The station opened on 30 March 2012, along with Ege Üniversitesi (İzmir Metro), Ege Üniversitesi station, as part of a eastward expansion.
