Bolivisión Santa Cruz is a Bolivian television station licensed to Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Operating on VHF channel 4 (digital channel 28, PSIP 4.1), it is both an owned-and-operated station and the flagship station of Bolivisión, a network owned by Albavisión, in turn owned by Remigio Ángel González. The licensee for the department operates under the name of Galavisión S.R.L., which also oversees two relay stations in Montero on channel 3 and Warnes on channel 33. History Galavisión started broadcasting on channel 4 in 1984, like most of the early private television stations, it relied heavily on piracy of foreign content, canned, with its audience preferring entertainment and mainly seen as elitist. Bolivisión is a commercial Bolivian television station with its main station in La Paz. The channel was launched on June 17, 1997, following the dissolution of Telesistema Boliviano, and later the creation of Unitel and the beginning of its relations with Galavisión. The network is owned by Albavisión since May 2007. Santa Cruz de la Sierra (; ), commonly known as Santa Cruz, is the largest city in Bolivia and the capital of the Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia), Santa Cruz department. In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. In broadcasting, a flagship (also known as a flagship station or key station) is the broadcast station which originates a television network, or a particular radio or television program that plays a key role in the branding of and consumer loyalty to a network or station. Unitel Santa Cruz is the Unitel owned-and-operated station for the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The station generates the network's national programming. History The station started broadcasting as Teleoriente in February 1987. The station had small facilities, but had the ambitions to overcome limitations in the human resources and broadcasting sectors. Teleoriente consolidated its position as a local television station when, in 1991, it affiliated with Red ATB, enabling its programs to be seen in seven of the nine departments of Bolivia. In 1993, the station introduced a new building, which as of 2008 was still in use. In September 1997, the rift caused the station to generate a new network, Unitel, the new channel was officially launched via satellite and shortly thereafter it obtained national coverage.
