Bokani Dyer
Bokani Dyer (born 21 January 1986), is a Motswana-South African pianist, composer and music producer. He creates jazz music containing elements of electronic, R&B, salsa and classical music. Early life and education Bokani Dyer was born in 1986 in Gaborone, Botswana. He moved to South Africa as a child in 1990. Dyer received piano lessons at the age of 14 and studied jazz at the University of Cape Town where he graduated in 2008. Following his graduation, he was awarded two international scholarships facilitating training and masterclasses with world-renowned musicians. Career During his studies in 2006, he was selected by Andre Peterson for a youth band that took part in a summer school in Sogne, Norway. Gaborone
Gaborone ( , , ) is the capital and largest city of Botswana with a population of 246,325 based on the 2022 census, about 10% of the total population of Botswana. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. London Jazz Festival
The London Jazz Festival is a music festival held every November. It takes place in London venues such as the Barbican and the Royal Festival Hall and in smaller jazz clubs, such as Ronnie Scott's and the Vortex Jazz Club. It is produced by Serious. History In 1970 the London Borough of Camden added a Jazz Week to the Camden Festival. During the next fifteen years, the Camden Jazz Weeks were held at venues around the borough: Bloomsbury Theatre, Logan Hall, London Forum, Roundhouse, and Shaw Theatre. Marcus Wyatt (musician)
Marcus Wyatt (born 1971, Port Elizabeth, South Africa), is a South African trumpeter, composer and producer. Wyatt was introduced to music, mostly folk and blues, at a young age as his father was chairman of the local folk club. He was introduced to the trumpet at age eleven and started playing in his school band where he learnt to read and play. He studied classical music and played with orchestras in the Port Elizabeth area. He was called up to the South African Defence Force's Naval Band for National Service and during this time he developed his love for jazz. He furthered his music studies at the University of Cape Town's College of Music. He completed a degree majoring in composition and arrangement. Jason Moran (born January 21, 1975) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and educator involved in multimedia art and theatrical installations. Moran recorded first with Greg Osby and debuted as a band leader with the 1999 album ''Soundtrack to Human Motion''. Since then, he has released albums with his trio The Bandwagon, solo, as a sideman, and with other bands. He combines post-bop and avant-garde jazz, blues, classical music, stride piano, and hip hop. SAMRO, the Southern African Music Rights Organisation, is a copyright asset management society.
